Nice One Prof. Glasson

Clearly the club desperately need help with cash flow, especially through the summer months with no football on the Crown.

Re: Nice One Prof. Glasson
This gesture brought tears to my eyes, not for the money; but for the very nature of the deed itself, these are the sort of Accrington people I remember from my childhood. Thank you Professor Glasson.

Re: Nice One Prof. Glasson
Got to say that this is the kind of financial gesture that the club needs at the moment

You're right there valairian.
Think O'Neill says it well at the end of the article:
"John will be repaid in full in the next 12 months, and we would like to think that the fact he has made this offer to the club with no security involved or conditions attached means that he is also confident that the club's future is in safe hands."

Re: Nice One Prof. Glasson
To the Prof I say, many thanks, its a very generous and kind offer.
However:-
Please forgive me, but I am slightly concerned about this kind of funding,ie an 'interest free loan'............we were told that the club was in 'dire straits' financialy at the fans forum, and the DON admitted that given our monthly outgoings, ie tax man, wages etc, things were not going to be easy to find.............now we find ourselves in a position where we have accepted a loan, which in the DON's own words will be 'repayed in full in the next 12 months'..............on the face of it, it seems like we are taking on more 'debt' but with no discernable way of repaying it............Am I the only one who finds this a little worrying?

Re: Nice One Prof. Glasson
I feel UK that The DON appears to have his head screwed on. Come the end of this season we will be in a better state, maybe The DON thinks that the FF will cash him up, but also I think that The DON knows that an Accy man lending cash without strings is hardly likely to take the club to court if the full amount is not repaid!!!! Lets face it would you or I ???? I say......

Re: Prof John Glasson.
Yes, cashman, he's a very generous man just when generosity is needed.
I just hope that his loan will not be squandered on anything connected with football and footballers.
ASFC needs to put every single pound at its disposal into facilities . . . and more facilities.
Particular areas for attention include hiring extra toilets (particularly ladies' toilets) for the first home league match, ensuring that new fans will not ruin their clothes in mud as they walk from their cars to the turnstiles, and ensuring that they are able to buy food and drink of good quality at sensible prices.
Every pound spent in this way will be worth ten by Christmas, and will enable the Club to repay the good Professor on the dot next year.
Any pound spent on the football side of the Club at this point will, I'm sorry to say, be a pound down the drain.
As I observed several years ago, the quality of football is way down on the list of priorities for new fans - particularly families - and this was proven unequivocally in the first month of Stanley's return to the football league.
They came, they paid, they left - never to come back again.
Doesn't anyone remember those ladies in tears as they queued to get into the flooded lavatories ?
Or the look of misery and disappointment on the faces of families as they left, bedraggled, having paid lots of money and saying openly that they would never return?
From 3,000 plus the attendances soon plummeted to well below 2,000.
So let's hope that Prof Glasson's money is used wisely.
Parking, shelter, seats, decent toilets, reasonably priced food and drink, a bit of entertainment for the kids, the opportunity to buy ASFC souvenirs at affordable prices: these are the things the public want.
And if the football team perform well and get a few goals, that's good too.
Best wishes to ASFC for the new season, and thank you Prof.

Re: Nice One Prof. Glasson
Quick apology from an old codger.
Didn't see this thread until too late, having replied to the one by cashman.
Can they be merged?
Anyway, thanks again Prof.

Re: Nice One Prof. Glasson
Very kind of the Professor to provide an interest free loan but I would prefer the club to take on non debt equity finance from ASSF.
The Professor lives in Headington which is where Oxford United used to have their ground. I know it having visited friends regularly in Gray's Road and stayed there round the corner from the Brookes University during my University Finals.
Here is a bit about him

One of his specialisms includes planning impact assessments.
