osc - any new business
I would like to suggest to the general public that all monies raised in the next twelve months are split 50-50 between the OSC and a local charity. I tried to post this on general chat to gauge local opinion on a worthwile cause but was moved to hints/tips/advice where I have had little feedback.
Where, if anywhere, do Stanley Supporters think we should be looking?
At the risk of sounding mercenary, the better the cause the more money we will raise for both parties. My opinion is that human interest will gain more support than animals, local will gain a shed load more support than national, and kids will raise more money than an adult interest.
I would rather set about raising £5000 for little Jonny to have a new wheelchair than putting money into a bottomless pit that would be something like Cancer Relief. All charity work is good work, all ideas are worthwhile. Again I think that the local angle of paying for something entirely is worth more, to that individual and dare I say it in terms of publicity to us, than contributing to something that cannot be instantly fixed like a national fund.
Little Jonny would notice us paying for his Euro Disney trip whereas nobody would notice a couple of thousand going into a fund that already gets national recognition, or government funding, or lottery money.
Please do not pick me up on small detail as I well aware that this that and the other need help. But as I said I would rather help individuals.

I don’t know how people feel but I was deeply touched by the chap from Wigan? the ex rugby player. It’s been in the local news lately. It is certainly the sort of local charity support that I like to respond too, OK I know it Accy money and there will be many good and needy causes. Sign me Sir….

Re: osc - any new business
Accy money stays in Accy. Call it the funny handshake club or whatever. But I would hat little Jonny who lives on Abbey St (centre of Accy) to have his wheelchair bought by Accy Clarets for example.
You can join by being at the OSC AGM on the 9th October. Mebership currentl stands at £8 inc free badge. By next year I would hope that membership costs around £4 and if you want a badge you buy it separately.

Re: osc - any new business
Theres a young lad that goes to my little brothers school, don't know his name off the top of my head, but he has a bad skin condition and yet tries his best to get on with life. I think he deserves, and I do mean DESERVES every penny.

Re: osc - any new business
I'm all for raising money for charity etc - I pay £12 a month by standing order to animal charities. However, if charity fundraising is something you want to do, surely you can do it seperate from accrington stanley supporters club. It's like the rspca doing fundraising and giving all the proceeds (or half of them) to the nspcc!
I think each year a local charity should be nominated as the club's charity for the season. They would receive a percentage of the proceeds from fundraising events held at the club and the charity would also benefit from their association with accy stanley as it would raise their profile in the local area, highlighting their cause...
Don't take it the wrong way, I just think the beauty of the supporters club is that people who choose to support them do so in the knowledge that all the money raised goes to accrington stanley. It's better not to confuse things, surely...?

Re: osc - any new business
having give the matter a lot of thought, and having spoken to various people about it, and having mooted the idea a the last meeting, I and many others think the idea is a good one.
The basic principle Felix, is that Football League Supporters Clubs tend to put a lot more effort into the community, via the Football Club, which then has the knock-on effect of raising the clubs profile. The fact remains that although all money raised in the last few years has been welcome money, it is only a drop in the ocean compared to the turnover at ASFC. We (or I and the people I have spoken to) believe that by agreeing to split the proceeds we can raise more money than if it is purely for the football club. Outside of our fans, few people are willing to donate to the club because they aren't interested in football so why should they subsidise it? And I agree, if Accy Cricket Club were down town shaking their buckets then they'd get nowt off me, but if half went towards little jonnies wheelchair then I'd probably chuck 50p in.
It sounds mercenary, but as I stated, I believe we will a) get more money and b) will propel the name of the club forward more.
We have the ability to tap areas that the club can't or won't get into. And, how often does the club give to the community? Via the OSC they now will be doing. People associate the OSC as ASFC so the benefit will be mutual.
And anyhows, it will obviously have to go to the vote. I propose that monies raised through memberships and sales stay with the club, money raised through fundraising events get split. I would hope that over the next 12-24 months the number of fundraising events will soar, and as such so will the wet profit in the clubhouse which would more than make up for any shortfall in paint buying initiatives.

Re: osc - any new business
i was thinking in terms of the s.c members who aren't involved with the running/management of the supporters club - those who are not local (as there are a number of members up and down the country) who join the supporters club for one reason....Accrington Stanley. I suppose if the majority of members vote in favour of the donating to charity idea, it's fair enough. I'm not looking to criticise, just weighing it up...
do the supporters club pay all funds they've raised to the football club on an annual basis or something, how does it work?

Re: osc - any new business
Money raised by the supporters club is not given to the football club unless it is for the benefit of the supporters. It is the supporters cluc and as such is completley separate from the football club.

Re: osc - any new business
Most members I would say are from Accrington/Hyndburn. Most fans who live further afield are either ex-pats who would appreciate the charity angle for Accrington, or folk who have no link to Accrington whatsoever and have signed up for the 'I'm a member of Accrington Stanley mate' kudos type angle. And these folk wouldn't give a toss as long as they get their card. Also I think it would take a brave person to step forward and say if they're giving half to charity then I'm not paying

"Most members I would say are from Accrington/Hyndburn......" how come hardly any attend the meetings then?
Maybe the organisation (also known as) Accrington Stanley Supporters Club should consider a name change...
