OSC Player of the Year Award

I haven't had time yet to post the minutes of the last OSC meeting and as nobody has missed them I aint tried to find the time. But, one of the biggest things to come out of it was that the Supporters Club Player of the Year WILL this year be going back to the terraces for an open vote. In recent years this has been a closed vote, entry to which was gained by firstly being a member and secondly attending the relevant meeting. The argument from me was that this was one of the reasons that the Crown Crowd did not support the OSC and many disliked the lack of transparency and closed shop structure. There was a debate over whether it was necessary and when this was pushed through we then chewed the cud over how it was to be done. The final decision was that we would hand out voting slips containing the full list of players of have played the qualifying amount of games (yet to be determined but probably over half) on each turnstile. There will be a pen available and slips will be filled out there and then. All slips will be then be counted by at least two people and verified by a third independant person.

Supporter of the year will again be chosen by the OSC from the OSC.

Re: OSC Player of the Year Award

Last season's Players of the Year were not selected by a "closed shop structure", nor did you have to attend any meeting at all.

Voting was possible online, by post or by personal attendance at the Meeting if you preferred.

This was made clear both on the Supporters' Club website and on the Accyweb forum.

Sadly, the remnants of the Supporters' Club site no longer contain these details.

You are right that it was necessary to be a Member in order to vote.
Why, otherwise, would it be called the Supporters' Club Player of the Year ?

Re: OSC Player of the Year Award

I take the point Henry and having checked I stand corrected.

The relevance to being a member of the supporters club is that this season there hasn't been an awful lot of members. Firstly, there isn't a lot of people willing to help collate and organise things this season. So counting up mail votes was a definite no-no. Secondly, there hasn't been a lot of trust or belief in the OSC for sometime rightly or wrongly. As you know, I am trying my best to do things which help to re-endear the club to its own fans. We used to do the vote by handing out slips at the turnstile and there is no harm done in doing it again. It will help to make people feel part of what is going on at the club and that is more important than whether they are a member or not.

The OSC needs people to part with their membership money to increase funds but they shouldn't have to be 'forced' or chased for it - I believe that the fans should want to join. If we had 1000 local members then it would be far easier to say that the vote will be taken by members only. As the number of members is far outnumbered by the non-members, we as the minority need to use inclusion rather than exclusion. That is my opinion, I gave my opinion at the last meeting and the meeting agreed with me. Again, as you know, the democratic way wins out and this vote could quite easily have gone the other way.

As far as the OSC website is concerned Henry, the use of 'remnants' would suggest that it is now not a patch on what it was. The homepage has not been updated for five weeks (will do it tuesday after the next meeting) other than that nothing has changed on the site since you were administrating it. So .......?

You, as much as anybody, know what a battle it can be and how little time you seem to have when things have to be done. If you read the threads on the OSC Open day and the Rochdale Away thread you will plainly see that I have been busy recently, whilst also trying to fit in my job, my family, my home renovations, to buy a new business, diversity meetings, Open day meetings, OSC meetings, deleting new spam members from the website that link to porn sites. And sometimes I sleep as well.

If you would like to rebuild from the remnants then please feel free to offer your services and I will send you the information every month for you to extract from.

Rob
