Partick Friendly
Hi guys, have been following your progress through the leagues now for many years. My old mans team,Third Lanark, went the same way as the old Stanley so it really is great to see you back in the league.Since the demise of Thirds we have been avid followers of Partick Thistle and look forward to the friendly in July and hope to catch up with a few of you there. So good luck for the season and here is to back to back promotions for both clubs.

Re: Partick Friendly
Hi there GS...I've seen those pics of 'Cathkin' in its current state(well maybe just a few years ago) and it must've been a very big ground as I recall.

Re: Partick Friendly
I'm going up by car with a pal who's coming up from Surrey just for the game. We're going to try and visit Ibrox, Celtic Park and Hampden en route, and see if there is another game close by with an evening kick off which we can get to.

thats a fair detour you will have on your hands there mate if your on your way to watch the plastic whistle (thistle)....going from the north of glasgow (maryhill) and then onto ibrox..(south of glasgow) and then to celtic park (east of glasgow) and then onto hamden...feck that..thats more hassle than its worth to be honest...I am a rangers fan & season ticket holder and I go up every week to see them and I wouldnt do that journey and I am from glasgow and know my way about...your best bet if you were/are mad enough to do it would be celtic your first stop then onto hampden..then onto Ibrox coming back over the motorway to maryhill...and what are you hoping to see ...? are you looking to get in and have a look round ? I would be very surprised if they let you in as the security at these clubs are very strict...although you never know..
from maryhill to ibrox...5.4 miles (10 mins) if you know where your going..
ibrox to hampdump (sorry hampden)...4.6 miles (10 mins) again only if you know where your going..
hampden to 'sellik' park...3 miles (7 mins) once again only if you know where your going...
celtic to firhill for thrills.. 5 miles (8 mins)....
now although its short times the driving is a pain especially if you dont know where your going or havent been to glasgow before and drove..and sat nav will send you the long way round...
just had a quick look regarding games that day and you may be out of luck as the scottish premier league kicks off that day ( 29th july) and celtic are at home so I doubt you will get close to celtic park or surrounding areas due to traffic and fans, police etc.. Rangers are playing away on the sunday but the reserves are playing on the saturday at 3pm so you wont get a look in there...hampden you could try but it a bit out the way for you...good luck though and I am sure you will have a good time !

Re: Partick Friendly
also forgot to say that your driving time will be lengthened big time due to football traffic going in all directions on the motorway...

Thanks for the advice. I hadnt bothered to check out the Scottish fixtures yet and had hoped that there might be a museum at all three grounds (Ibrox, Celtic and Hampden) or that I might be able to talk my way in for a quick look around the inside of the stadiums (I'm a stadium anorak and have managed to talk my way into a number of stadiums both in Britain and America, just for a few pictures and an admiring look). I have sat nav which allows me to choose the most direct routes to each place, avoiding particular roads or areas so I had hoped to avoid the worst of the traffic, arriving at the first ground around 9am (ish).
All the best for the new season.

Re: Partick Friendly
hampden has a museum thats actually quite good and you should get in there no probs , Rangers dont have one (sore point!) but you can book a tour of the ground/stadium which is really good (yes I am being bias..its one of only 12 five star stadiums in europe) and I am sure if you done it now you would get one for that day in the morning but the jobs worth security and ibrox and celtic are pains in the backside and may not entertain you if you wander up..and as good as sat nav is - it does take you the most direct route that isnt always the best ! but the best of luck to you and I hope you get some pics and that you post on here...
hampden museum Tel: 0141 616 6139 for enquiries/bookings

Re: Partick Friendly
A typical Old Firm fan,he could also have informed you that there is also a tour of the stadium at Firhill. For any of you who are interested contact Robert Reid at the stadium for details,he is the club historian and would be only too glad to help.

typical nothing my friend , the only reason I didnt mention the firhill tour is because I presumed he would be doing it anyway - that and he didnt mentioned it in his original post !
typical thistle fan..always thinking the worst of those fans from they other glasgow teams... , anyway good luck in your promotion push this season mate although I think it may be hard for the jags..thats a good league your in with decent teams..thats more competitive than the esssspeeeelllll...if you hit the ground running and bag up the early points it may stand you well in mid season.....
