Re: Peel Park old team pics
I remember working with Jimmy Harrower in the 70's I think at McKiernans Heating Group. Jimmy use to get his hair cut in works time. One day he had gone to get his hair cut and the boss turned up on site and Jimmy wasn't there. When Jimmy came back the boss asked him why he went to the barbers in works time and Jimmy's classic reply was "It grows in works time"

Re: Peel Park old team pics
Great pictures, if you're sure the three doing the digging are players I would guess at, top with the wheelbarrow-Armour Ash, the haircut gives him away, at the rear-George Stewart, but haven't a clue who the other one is. Not a regular first team player, if I was to guess I would say John Marshall the reserve team goalie.

Re: Peel Park old team pics
Team group: I think that the player with the hat is Harry Anders, and that the player part hidden by McNichol is Willie Kelly. The group should be 57-58, but there is probably one player missing. Les Cocker was retired by this time, and on the coaching staff.

Re: Peel Park old team pics
Sorry Greger, that is def. Armour Ash behind Bob McNichol and the gent on the end in the dark blazer is def. Les Cocker. The hat man could be in dispute though.

Re: Peel Park old team pics
OK. If you say it's Ashe, then it is. But I am equally sure about Harry Anders, which would make this an early 57-58 season pic, as Ashe left the club in November. And, yes, of course it's Les Cocker in the blazer, but my point was just that he wasn't in the pic as a player. (Don't think players had club blazers). And he was never on the same team as Mulkerrin and Sneddon e.g. Someone is missing, and that someone was almost certainly Wattie Dick.

A friend of ours, who was very close to the Anders brothers, says that Greger is indeed correct, when he says the player in the cap is Harry Anders, ( the player on the other side of Jim Mulkerrin is Jimmy Anders). He says he is also correct when he says that Les Cocker never played in the same team as Jim and Charlie (he had retired before Jim Mulkerrin joined Stanley). He also thinks the missing player was more likely to be Wattie Dick, who was a regular around that time, unless he was out through injury.
