I've been reading it the past couple of days and have had to fight the urge to quote and comment on things it contains, thi s particular quote though just has to be mentioned
page 284 " a letter in the local paper pointed the finger at Whalley, charging that he had prioritised the ground rather than the squad"
how things have changed!!! we used to have one of the best grounds in the league and one of the worst squads. Now we have the reverse of that, what would you rather have?
The other startling fact was the extent to which the Supporters Club helped the club pre 62. In the two seasons 53-55 the OSC raised £27,921 at a time when the wages paid to players was £14. The clubs annual income at the time was around £32,000. I know things are different now as the clubs themselves incorporate a lot of those days ideas into their weekly business plans anyway, but those figures are staggering considering they are from over 50 years ago.
