play offs. good or bad idea?
thought I might bring this up before Wednesday as it could be thought of as sour grapes if we loose- I personally really dislike them and found I was hopeing to see brighton and Walsall both win as well as us. promotion is all about finishing the highest in the league and not about 3 games at the end of a season with tired players and pitches at their worst. it could easily come down to penalty shoot out in the final. play offs are top of my list of things I hate about the modern game.

Re: play offs. good or bad idea?
Love them.
About 10 sides in league 2 were in with a shout for the last couple of months so it keeps the entire league competitive. I'd go one step further and have a relegation play off as well!

I'm the opposite would do away wi em,unless teams have the same points, think its unfair if oer a season a team can be 10 or 15 pts clear of a play off side.and have to do it again.its all about sky n money.

Re: play offs. good or bad idea?
Top 4 never used to go up did they, it was only 3 before so a return to 1986 wouldn't do us much good. Almost 30 years since they come in, the same day automatic promotion from the conference was first introduced.
Since when is 1987 considered the modern game?
The worst idea is having a party before a crucial game like last Saturday, and heap over-bearing pressure on the side. Yes there would have been a lot of pressure any way, but to celebrate early was was ridiculous and possibly ruined a great season.

Re: play offs. good or bad idea?
Playoffs make the league competitive and exciting, keep them.
It's our own fault we did not go up automatically, there is nothing to gain from crying about it.
We need to regroup, refocus and cone up with a plan A, B and C go overcome a defensively strong Wimbledon.

Re: play offs. good or bad idea?
At the moment I think they're a terrible idea .
If we come 4th, 5th or 6th in League 1 next season, I reserve the right to change my mind

Re: play offs. good or bad idea?
As per Macca I love the play offs. Keeps the season alive and gives us some extra footy in May. You start in August knowing what the parameters are and where you've got to finish to go up so you can't get to the end of the season and moan about them. As Coley once said 'football can be a cruel mistress' and after the last 2 Saturday's she has certainly shown that. Just hope we've got enough in our locker to get over the line on Wednesday! ON STANLEY ON

Re: play offs. good or bad idea?
Am i right in remembering that at one time there were play offs for relegation too? Something at the back of my mind's telling me that the top two from one league played the bottom two from the league above - then again my mind's still frazzled from yesterday so am probably completely wrong

Re: play offs. good or bad idea?
Imagine all the floating fans from each football club that would stop going if there was no playoffs and their season was over in January/Febuary

It was always the top four who went up from the fourth division as far back as I can remember and that is way further back than 1987.

1987 seems a date when everything started to change for the worse with the play offs. then we had the premier league and sky involvement. Bradford city disaster and Hillsborough with all the problems associated with it e.g. ban on standing. new flat pack grounds or should I say stadiums. constant law changes with the off side law being the most ludicrous. the Stevenage game was not about a party it was the opening of the fans zone that the supporters club wanted although some did think it could have turned into a premature party. no it would be nice to go to an old end of season game with nothing on it just to enjoy with no pressure. you could give a few young lads a game with nothing to loose as well.
