Portsmouth away!

Hi guys,

I'm a Luton fan at Portsmouth Uni and am planning on sitting/standing with your fans tonight rather than watching the Champions League!

Just wondered who the players to watch out for are? How many of your fans will make the long trip down, 50-100?

Have been to Fratton Park twice already this year, if Portsmouth aren't leading by half time the fans turn against them very quickly!

Thanks,
Matt

Matt,
Hope to see you in the away end. As to numbers, it's a matter of quality not quantity. Following Stanley is an exclusive past-time.

Re: Portsmouth away!

will be hard tonight, pompey are determined to put a win on the board after their heavy defeat on saturday.
Beattie may want to consider frustrating pompey for the first 60mins and go for it in the last half hour.

Re: Portsmouth away!

Portsmouth really aren't a strong side. They lack so much confidence and the crowd can be brilliant if they get an early goal, but get frustrated really easily!

Oh dear ........

Well the highlight was undoubtedly Peter Marsden picking up the tab for everything bought from the away end snack bar at half time - feel a little guilty as it was only a 15 minute walk from home for me, but thanks Peter ......

The lowlight was the defence switching off completely after a Pompey comedy corner and letting someone run 20 yds on the ball before finishing into the corner from the edge of the box.

Plan A was launch it down the middle to Paul Mullin, but unfortunately he left a while back. There was no Plan B. The only threat came from Mingola and Liddle trying pretty combinations down the left, but 90% of the time there was no final ball in.

Other people will doubtless have more detailed and perceptive analysis to offer.

13000 Pompey crowd in good voice once they were winning. We needed the drum!!

On Stanley On - let's put this one behind us.

Re: Portsmouth away!

Can't disagree with any of that, Chimer. First half thought Stanley were the better team but, other than a long range Naismith curler, with little end product. The defence were pretty solid and, for 45 minutes Mr Beattie's plan to "quieten" the crowd was working and you could sense Pompey's frustration. But their early goal in the second half was the undoing of that tactic. Thought Mr Bettenelli had it covered but it was a well taken shot. Stanley were then not able to get back into the game to any meaningful degree. Mr Murphy had a chance with a header and we all thought Mr Naismith had salvaged a point at the death, but it was inches wide and into the side netting. All the players looked to be having trouble keeping their feet but, unfortunately, Stanley just didn't do enough to get anything out of the game. Great support from the Pompey fans, and many thanks to Peter Marsden, if it was he who paid for the half time coffee.
The battle for survival continues on Saturday.
