Prediction League game 2; Northampton (away)
Prediction League – Game 2; v Northampton (away)
Over the summer Northampton have released, free transferred or sold 9 of their squad from last season (notably Luke Gutteridge, who joined Aldershot (but did nowt on Saturday!), Adebayo Akinfenwa (the well built striker who scored at the Crown last season – incidentally, who did eat all the pies?) who went to Gillingham, and Chris McCready, now with Morecambe). They may well miss Akinfenwa, who was, by some distance, their leading scorer. They made 5 signings; Nat Wedderburn (midfielder) from Stoke, Tadhg Purcell (striker) from Darlington, Alistair Slowe (midfield) from Onisilos Sotira in Cyprus (who?), John Johnson (defender) on loan from Middlesborough and Marcus Hall, a defender from Coventry.
We’ve only met twice since we came back into the league, following their relegation at the end of 2008/9; not a happy experience, unfortunately, with the Cobblers winning 3-0 at our place on an August Tuesday night and then 4-0 at Sixfields in February. Will revenge be sweet? They finished last season 11th on 67 points (4 places and 6 points above us); they scored 62 (joint 9th) and conceded 53 (6th). We scored 62 as well (also joint 9th) but we conceded 74 (beaten only by Darlington’s 87).
They began this season with a comprehensive 3-0 loss at Torquay (Billy Whizz coming on after 63 mins as a sub for Torquay. Tonight they beat Brighton at home in the Carling Cup 2-0, with goals in the first 20 minutes from Jacobs and McKay.
The deadline for entries is, as ever, scheduled kick-off time, which is 3pm on Saturday 14th August. So who’s going to win – and by what score? Or will it end in stalemate? High scoring thriller or low scoring bore-draw? You decide …….
Good luck to everyone ………… and thanks for playing!
