Prediction League Game 25; Chesterfield (home)

Prediction League – Game 25; v Chesterfield (home)

Well I did suggest that a November Tuesday night might not be the ideal time to visit them, and we duly got a rare old smacking on November 2nd; two from Welsh international ex Burscough, Verona and Brighton striker Craig Davies, two more from Danny Whittaker (Macc, Port Vale and Oldham) and one from the evergreen Jack Lester, against our goals from Phil Edwards (17th minute penalty) and Terry Gornell left us on the wrong end of a 5-2 scoreline and with three yellow cards to boot.

Since then, though, they haven’t had a fantastic time; a 2-0 win at Harrow in the FA Cup First Round, two defeats by Burton Albion (3-1 at the Pirelli in the FA Cup Rd 2, and 2-1 at the b2net in the League; two other November League games resulted in a 2-0 win at Aldershot but a 2-1 home defeat by Oxford, and their only game since 27th November was a squeaky 1-0 win over Torquay; P6 W3 L3 – in the League, P4 W2 L2 F5 A4 Pts6; that said, they’re still top of the table (as at 29th December). They’ve scored 46 in 24 games in all competitions to date; leading scorers are Craig Davies with 14, Danny Whittaker with 9 and Jack Lester with 6 – the very players who got their goals in the first game …..

Their away Div 2 form for the season is W3 D4 L1 (scoring 9 and conceding 6); seems that they don’t do high-scoring games away from home (we don’t do high scoring games at all, except twice a season on average!) We’ve got a good home record against them, having won all three at Fortress Crown, 2-1, 1-0 (Bobby Grant’s first Stanley goal, and Lester getting sent off), and 2-0 last year (both goals from Billy Kee).

The deadline for entries is, as ever, scheduled kick-off time, which is 3.00pm on Monday 3rd January. Three points off the League leaders would be a real tonic, methinks; I’d take 1-0, tell the truth; any other takers? Anyone for 3-2? (Dave? ) Anyone for optimistic foolishness? (Val/Wynonie? ) Anyone for tennis?

Good luck to everyone ………… and thanks for playing!
