Prediction League game 3; Macclesfield (home)
Accrington Stanley
V
Macclesfield Town
Prediction League – Game 3; v Macclesfield (home)
Over the summer Macclesfield shipped out (“released”) 7 players, and let three more go on free transfers; main beneficiaries of that largesse were, of course, the Stanley, who signed up Sean Hessey (who had been the Macclesfield skipper) and Craig Lindfield. They signed five, perhaps the best known being Lewis Chalmers from Aldershot and Matt Hamshaw from Notts County; watch out, though for Tyrone Barnett – a striker who scored over 25 goals in each of two seasons for Hednesford Town in the Southern Premier League (Zamaretto).
Many people will remember the 3-2 home win in April 07 which ensured our survival in our first season back (goals from Rocky Williams and 2 from Proccie); the ‘away leg’ was a 3-3 draw. In 07/8 we won 3-2 at home but lost 2-1 away (our only loss to them in 4 seasons) with Ian Craney getting our goal; 08/9 was two 2-0 victories (Williams and Proccie away, Mullin and Ryan at home), and last season was two draws – 0-0 away, and 1-1 (thanks to a heavily disputed penalty) at Fortress Crown with Billie Whizz scoring for us. Macc finished last season 19th on 54 points (4 places and 7 points below us); they scored 49 (20th) and conceded 58 (equal 10th). We scored 62 (joint 9th) but we conceded 74 (beaten only by Darlington’s 87).
Their season opener was as Stevenage’s first-ever league opponents, and Macc led 2-1 at the Lamex Stadium, only conceding the equaliser in the 89th minute; the Macc goals came from Brown and Barnett. On Glorious Tuesday (for us, not them) they took an early lead at Leicester in the Carling Cup game before eventually losing 4-3 – a creditable result given the Championship/League Two divide; but we know all about that, don’t we Donnie? Their goals came from Brown, Mukendi and Daniel. Last Saturday’s game they’d probably prefer to forget, losing 1-0 at home to Shrewsbury courtesy of a 3rd minute goal…………. One draw, two defeats to date
The deadline for entries is, as ever, scheduled kick-off time, which is 3pm on Saturday 21st August. Home win? Away win? Score draw? Your guess is as good as mine (and on current form probably better ………….)
Good luck to everyone ………… and thanks for playing!
