Prediction League Game 7; Lincoln (home)
Accrington Stanley
V
Lincoln City
Prediction League – Game 7; v Lincoln (home)
Friday night football comes back to the Crown!
Lincoln ‘balanced their books’ over the summer – 8 out and 8 in; Striker Drewe Broughton (at his 17th different club) from Rotherham; Grenada international strike partner Delroy Facey (they’re his 13th club) and defender Jamie Clapham (they’re only his 9th) from Notts County; midfielder Gavin McCallum (a Canadian international – I didn’t actually know they had any) from Hereford, and Joe Anyon, a keeper of some repute from Port Vale being probably the names you might know.
They finished 20th last year with 50 points, scoring 42 and conceding 65; we finished 5 places and 11 points above them, scoring 62 but we conceding 74. This year – need I remind you – we’ve got the best defensive record in the Division (1 goal conceded in 6 League games); mind you, only Morecambe have won fewer games than us ……….. Over the four seasons we’ve been back, Lincoln have had the evil eye over us big style – our record is played 8, won 1, drawn 1, lost 6, including a 3-0 defeat at our place in Feb 08 and a 5-1 hammering at Sincil Bank on a Friday just before Christmas in the same year. We managed a 2-2 draw at home in our first season back (goals from Andy Todd and Paul Mullin) and eventually took 3 points off them in our first home game of last season (Aug 09) with a towering header from Darren Kempson. The return leg in February was a huge disappointment – we led for almost an hour with a goal from Bobby Grant, before they equalised on 83 and then won in added time with an own goal from Darren Kempson. (Didn’t I say “they won with an own goal from Darren Kempson” in last week’s competition as well? Groundhog Day!)
Two league wins (Gillingham (away) and Barnet (home) – both by 1-0) – and one draw (Crewe (home) 1-1) leave them on 7 points, with 5 scored and 7 conceded; their other 3 games have resulted in defeats by Rotherham and Chesterfield (both away, and both by 2-1) and Torquay (home, 0-2). Their five goals have involved four scorers, only Ben Hutchinson (on loan from Celtic) having hit the back of the net more than once
The deadline for entries is, as ever, scheduled kick-off time, which is 7.45pm on Friday 17th September. From my lofty position of 60-somethingth in the PL I have no intention of hinting at or suggesting any possible outcome …..
Good luck to everyone ………… and thanks for playing!
