Re: Promotion next season
I think we now have a good quality keeper, would still like to see 2/3 quality defenders which by the sounds of it will happen, midfield would like to see a bit of an enforcer in there somebody in the centre who can spray the ball around and break play up and another winger, strikers I think we now how that little bit of class to assist Mullin that was probably missed in spells last season. I still think Graham Branch could do a bit of a job as he is versatile and could play in a number of roles. In summing up I think Stanley have a real possibility of making the Play Offs even Automatic promotion but the key has to be consistency which we saw at home towards the end of last season the FES must become a fortress with the aquasition of the new roof hopefully noise levels will be raised and it will make it an intimidating place for away clubs to come.

Re: Promotion next season
Unfortunately, the club is in no way prepared for promotion. Our ground is not good enough for league 2 nevermind league 1 or above and we don't have enough core support just yet.
In my opinion top half of the table finishes, for the next few seasons, will set us up for the future, core support will grow, the ground will get upgraded, players will want to come, and we will be financially stable.
Promotion too soon will put too much pressure on us all, and could destroy the club, (especially if we borrow money to sustain the push).
The ambition must be stability not outright glory at this time

Re: Promotion next season
we can catogorically state that Eric will not borrow money to push for promotion, but we could always hope for the accident that was winning the Conference.
When you net it down we were six or seven wins away from the play-offs last season and that does not seem inconceivable that we could have had them. The run of 15 games 'bout a win contained at least five games that were 'stolen' from us, we had a horrendous run of injuries and suspensions that prevented any serious consistency.
This season we appear to have replaced inadequacy (with the exception of Andy Todd) with experienced league 2 players with a bit of class. We should have some real quality on the goaline again and hopefully he (KA) can avoid injury and put together 40 odd games so that the defence can gather some kind of faith in their keeper.
Defence was the main problem last year and we haven't yet done anything about it. Maybe there are a couple of irons in the fire but a key element of the defence will be the confidence in the keeper. We literally threw away a bucket full of points last season that we can avoid. A big ****** with pace please.
Midfield should be massively over populated this season. The reserves will have a cracking midfield with any four of Boco, Proctor, Brown, Miles, Carden, Whalley, Harris and maybe still Branch. At least three of those players can play up front but will play more in midfield to get games.
Up front - well Mullin is probably nailed on to start every game and I would imagine Dsane as his foil. Dsane used to work very well with Tim Sills who was another big target man to nod the ball down for him. The difference is that Mullin is twice the player that Tim Sills was. I'd also like to see Whalley get a few chances as strike partner in the same way that Gary Roberts was used. Gary was a revelation when he went up front but I think that Shaun has the potential to be even more destructive as he always takes two or three players out when he runs at them. Couple that with somebody running intelligently alongside for the poke throughs and it would be a devasting alternative game plan to our usual.
We work on the old Keegan tactic of trying to outscore the opposition and we have obviously done very well out of it for a while. I think that this year we have an excellent forward line again, possibly as good as last years that included Todd, Craney and Roberts.
I'm pretty optimistic again this year and I haven't even mentioned McGivern who was last years messiah whilst out injured.
Point above relegation would be fine!!!!!!!!!!
Nah, I think we'll miss out on the play-offs by about seven points.

Come on it will take a bit more than TM believing for us to go up, nothing like a bit of pre-season optimism.

Re: Promotion next season
I'd actually be a bit dismayed if we didn't make the play offs.
OK we need to sign two or three decent defenders, but I think that's imminent. Going forward we'll be awesome, Coley has a hell of a pack to shuffle from, the Ground behind the Crown will be the place to be.
Key player :- Romuald Boco, running the game, from midfield.
FA Cup - could give us a real buzz, if we make the 3rd round.

Re: Promotion next season
There seems to be an awful lot of negativity in this thread, lets believe we can get to the playoffs at least. Yes we have signed some decent players. If Liverpool (our feeder club) would be so kind as to lend us Godwin Antwi again for the season and the other 2 signings come off, we WILL be fine. Coley knows what he is doing. Yes the ground is not up to much at this moment, but it IS fit for league 2 otherwise we wouldn't be here. Never mind a few years of mid table, that will not bring in the punters. A club looking for success and getting it is more likely to bring in the support we need, so looking for playoffs at least or even promotion is liable to strengthen the support. It is up to the club and the OSC to some extent to keep them coming back week in week out regardless of weather conditions.

Nor have you mentioned our other new signing up front, John Miles... ??? Get Godwin back for the season and we will definately do better than last season with what we have so far...
As regards to whether or not we finish in the playoffs or promotion places, personally until Ive seen or heard them play together, I dont want to speculate on that

Re: Promotion next season
It's not time for promotion yet, there's a pattern to it. Three years in the Unibond Premier, one where we don't do much, one where we have a good cup run and the last one to concentrate on & win the league, same in the Conference so by my reckoning this season we'll have a good cup run in one competition or another and next season will be the one to start talking about promotion
