Questions from Glasgow boy on tour!

My wife and I are coming down later this month for the Tuesday night game v Morecambe. (The Accrington and Morecambe scores are always the first I check for when I get home from the match).

Looking for some advice though and have a few questions:-

1) I’ve heard there's a couple of chip shops near the ground – which one do you guys recommend? (Tracey's or The Oakley?)
2) I know the Crown, Oakley Tavern and Greyhound pub are all nearby – would you suggest a mini pub crawl or are there one or two to be avoided? Or is it best to try the bar inside the ground?
3) Are there 2 or 3 star players that I should perhaps look out for?
4) We’re staying overnight in the town centre so if you know of any decent restaurants and/or pubs in the centre then I’d appreciate any insider knowledge.
5) I realise its probably ironic (and likely wont go down too well) that I like both sides considering they’re both from Lancashire but I'm therefore wondering if this is the big derby match-up that both sets of fans look forward to when the fixtures are first announced?

the Oaklea Tavern is actually a restaurant too, you might want to try eating there i hope you enjoy your time in Accrington

i like the food at oaklea tavern its very good value and its always very good! the star players for stanley anyway are as you know paul mullin, jimmy ryan hes a very good winger, kenny who will be back between the sticks, edwards top defender surprise no-one has come in for him! than we have people like grant,cav,turner,procter,miles who can play welll when on form. if you like indian food than balti stan! after hare and hounds pub on whalley road is good

Glasgowboy:
1) The Oaklea is an excellent chippy, although, to be fair, I've never heard of Tracey's so I can't comment.
2) All three pubs you mention are OK, the Oaklea particularly so. Sadly, though, there are no pubs in the area that serve real beer. I live in hope that one day a pub in Accy will start serving 80/-! Well worth taking a 20 minute walk over to the Peel Park Hotel, next to the site of our original ground. Any local will give you directions.
3) Definitely watch out for goalie, Kenny Arthur - the pride of Partick Thistle!
4) Haven't lived in Accy for over 20 years, so can't comment. Flashy's right, though - the scram in the Oaklea looks good, although I've never actually tried it.
5) Yep, definitely, a big derby with a lot of local pride at stake. No real aggro, though, so don't expect a Rangers/Celtic scenario! You may be a neutral, but make sure you come into the Clayton End - you'll be a confirmed Stanleyite afterwards!

Counting down the days till we head down - only hope the weather picks up a bit. Clayton End it is then, sounds good! (I miss the good old days of being able to party with all the nutters behind the goals - at Clyde we just have everyone in the main stand. Atmosphere compares strongly to that of a library!)

As a Clyde season ticket holder for the last 9 years, this will be the first time in history that I've ever cheered for Kenny Arthur! (Par***k Thi***e happen to be our biggest rivals - though personally I hate Airdrie a lot more, as do some others).

We might grab an indian before heading to the Oaklea for a couple of pre-match pints - kinda surprised that nobody mentioned the Crown with it being a Stanley owned pub. I guess the Oaklea must have a special place in the hearts of the die-hard Stanley fans.

Just done a you-tube search on the old Stanley advert - priceless! You guys also got a few mentions on soccer am today too. This game can't come quick enough!

Soccer a.m. kept giving updates on matches that were off. Each time Brian Blessed would shout "What about the Accrington game, is it on" - giving the soccer a.m. crew the perfect opportunity to play the "Accrington Stanley, who are they, exactly" as often as possible. Funny at first but started to wear thin.

Because the Crown's right next to the ground, it tends to fill up with away fans, so many of us go in the Oaklea. It's a good craic - the manager's a Stanley fan.

Must say, your ground looks quite posh. Be prepared for more homely surroundings at our place! I can guarantee that you'll love the Clayton End, though!

Lol Wynonie. Seems you guys have the same problem as us - attendances! We get around 1100 each week - most others average between 2000 and 4000, so we're playing catch-up from the get-go budgetwise. Ground may look posh, but the Council owns it, so we get no revenue there either. How we've remained in the 1st for 8 years defies logic!

In your league, assuming that Luton go down, I hope Grimsby are the second team to drop out. I've always hated Grimsby! Totally irrational as I dont really have a good reason - maybe its just the name, I dunno.

Oh and when Clyde are away from home, I tend to take in some non league football up here - most of which are basically a public park with a rope tied round it!. Trust me, FE Stadium looks like a palace compared to all of them so I'll be expecting a caviar-burger from your pie stand!

Wyn, if by 'real beer' you mean a decent pint of cask, then the Greyhound is the pub of the three you mention. Thwaites Original for £2.20. Think they also have 'Bomber'
