I think you are being unfair. He is a good shot-stopper - and has had some excellent games. Watford comes to mind straight away. He does have weaknesses, the main one being that he does not command his area. But he is certainly not as bad as you always make out.

You can get a good shot-stopper on Highams on a Saturday morning. To be a good keeper you must be able to make the correct decisions, command the penalty area and have the respect of your defenders who must also have confidence in you. Dunbavin has none of this. In my opinion he is worse than people make out. He is not a good keeper and never will be. We must sign a decent keeper to have any chance of survival this season and if we do sign a decent keeper I can see us having our best season ever.

Re: Radcliffe Tonite

A Rochdale fan on another forum said that we could do worse than sign Sam Russell. As others have said, he is prone to an odd mistake (worst one for Rochdale being him punching the ball into his own goal versus Bury....lol) but on the whole he's a solid 'keeper.

I agree with Jeff concerning Dunbavin. Any 'keeper from the Unibond upwards will be a good shot-stopper, but 'keepers today have to be much more than that.

Re: Radcliffe Tonite

I'm a keeper myself so always pay more attention to the man between the posts, and aw the Rochdale games home and away last season and Russell played both and played well, very solid and one of the better keepers I have seen at commanding his area, and made a few good saves too (including one brilliant reaction save in the away game). He's no Kenny but certainly one of the better keepers in the division, and was suprised when he was released.

Incidently in the away game around Xmas time Dunbavin was playing as Kenny injured, and Russell just looked a class apart from him at the other end, remember thinking at the time if the keepers were other way around we'd have won not lost 3-1. Might have the odd moment, but certainly a good signing if his performances against Stanley last season were anything to go by.

A side issue, keepers having 'moments' coming for crosses are often (although not always) a bit unfair I reckon. I'd far prefer a keeper that consistently comes and deals with crosses and gives away a goal or two in a season than one who remains rooted to his line everytime the ball comes near. Although it's pretty much impossible to show, I reckon keepers like that let in a fair few more goals a season from close range headers that simply wouldn't be chances if they could judge a cross and come to claim it. Rant over!!!

Re: Radcliffe Tonite

I am sure any keeper Unibond or otherwise would have been proud though of Dunbavin's performance in the 2-2 06/07 league draw at Mansfield.

Re: Radcliffe Tonite

Sorry had to post this,I personally would love to see you guys play us in a pre-season friendly.Think of it money wise probably close to a full house as on the FC United forum they regard their time in 2005/2006 season when we played at your ground as some of the best away days they had.IMHO I think we may give you a sterner test than Radcliffe Borough.Any ways good luck for the future season

Re: Radcliffe Tonite

Don't forget the big favour Sam Russell did for us in Conference days by getting himself injured so that Darlo then had to recall Bertrand Bossu after just one match for us!

Yes, a good performance of shot stopping.
