Not so easy. If they are all under contract the only way to reduce numbers this summer would be to accept bids for our higher-profile (i.e. better) midfield players - that way there’d be fewer.
But any new striker(s) bought with the resultant money may not get such good service next season, and end up having a disappointing return on the investment.
I’ll leave it to Professor Coleman and his team to sort things out.

Quite correct but personally with our poor away form and goals against column I think an experienced keeper and defender are a must hopefully with a fit Joe Pritchard next season the goals will come, Ripley and Huntington both leaving Preston beyond us financially probably but can dream.

I know Exile, but we did not have to sign all of them

Re: Retained list 2022.
I thought this statement from Coley on announcing the retained list sounded ominous and chimed (no pun intended) with the rumoured interest from Portsmouth:
"Midfielder Matt Butcher has been offered a deal but John Coleman said: "Matt has been a good servant to the club and we wish him all the best.""

Re: Retained list 2022.
He said this also
"We did offer him a new contact but have been unable to offer him an improved contract, so he is now a free agent."

Re: Retained list 2022.
Matt Butcher gone!
Well at least that will please all those moaning that we have too many midfielders.
Who's next? Pritchard or Pell perhaps.

Re: Retained list 2022.
Matt doesn't become a free agent until the 30th of June the player and club couldn't agree on an improvement to his contract but seeing has there have been rumours of a move back Southwards for some time it comes has no surprise, anyone else moving on will require a fee not moaning about too many midfielders it's obvious to most it's an unbalanced squad but hopefully Hardy after his loan spell in Scotland could come back and be the answer to the striker scenario goalkeeper and experienced defender definitely needed.

Re: Retained list 2022.
Given his total absence from the ‘Cally’s’ goal scorers list, and (I think) use only as a late substitute, you may be being a tad over-optimistic hoping Joe Hardy is the answer to Stanley’s ‘goals for’ problems.
Hope I’m wrong, really hope he comes good and turns out to be Kee MkII.
Young Josh Woods showed great promise, offering a lot of pace, but at his stage of career I can’t see him turning into a goal machine over one summer.

Re: Retained list 2022.
Josh Woods needs to be given the chance next season.
As you said, showed the correct attitude and most importantly, he knew how to be a striker/goal scorer

Another 12 months on the same money - or 2 to 3 years elsewhere on more money. Not hard to work out is it ?
Can't be bothered to start the same old same old about budgets.
Pitch - fantastic.
Corporate - massive improvement.
Training facilities
Smart new dressing rooms.
Hopefully it's now the turn of the product on the pitch.
I can't see it though.
I hope we hang on to Savin Sykes Pritchard Leigh.
There will be interest.

Re: Retained list 2022.
Very sorry to see Butcher go. Impressed me as the engine room the very few times I got to see him.
Hope Coley can find a striker (or two) and allow Pell to play where he belongs.

Few ways of looking at the Butcher scenario the club didn't offer him a pay rise, so either didn't care wether he stayed or not new already his agent his promising a nugget else where or we haven't got the money to keep a midfielder when we need body's elsewhere or the budget isn't going up. Only time will tell on the budget but a decent amount incoming on a sale of one of ours could free up some money

Re: Retained list 2022.
Butcher wanted to go back south, cannot blame him for that.
Half decent player, who did his job
Good luck to him, wish him well
