Ricky Kirby
Wasn't best pleased when Tannoyman was replaced, and not too keen on the commercial radio approach, don't consider myself worthy of that level of patronising. The music itself, second rate soul and reggae, whilst not as bad as the stuff that accompanies the angels(?), doesn't feel appropriate for Div.4 in Lancashire. "Cart On", seems to have been marginalised, where really it has been one of the resounding themes of Stanley this year.
Shouting, "come on the Clayton End", when they're all still in the bar is a clue to the fact you don't really get it.
Anyway, that aside, thought some requests for the visitors might help them feel at home, after all they've usually come a long way, sometimes from a different country.
This Saturday for instance, anything by Tom or Aled Jones, Shirley Bassey or any male voiced choir would be appropriate, Harry Secombe would be brilliant.
Must acknowledge your diction is excellent, but please be especially clear when it comes to the cross bar challenge, some visitors might be reminded of recent knock backs from females who weren't quite in the mood.

Re: Ricky Kirby
He constantly holds up the kick-off, and even worse holds up the minutes silence by 20 - 30 seconds.
I'm very sorry but he really winds me up.

Re: Ricky Kirby
Bring back Tannoyman!!
Spot on about the second rate soul & reggae Oggy. It wasn't too long ago when we had voted on a pre-match tracklist on here which a lot of people were happy with & it's been replaced by that drivel.
I keep expecting a full time message across the tannoy of "the buffet is on, the buffet is on now!"

Re: Ricky Kirby
funny that, me and my mate were only saying how tannoyman was missed at the weekend, that 2br bloke is 100% cheese, really crap and cart on is played less and less each week, couple that with the inaudable sound system and you realise what a top bloke tannoyman was............bring him back.

Re: Ricky Kirby
Thank goodness for this. I was going to post exactly the same sentiments on Monday, but then I thought it might just be me. This bloke is a real OTT intrusion. I could be very rude, but maybe I'll just say that I went home after Saturday's match and I was convinced I could still hear him three hours later.
Talk about Smashy and Nicey!

Re: Ricky Kirby
My problem isn't with Ricky himself, as I think its great that I can now hear most of whats being said (no offense Tannoy man I know this wasn't your fault), but with his choice of music.
I appreciate that the guy is into reggea, ska, soul type stuff but most of us aren't and it doesn't exactly lift you to a crescendo for when the teams run out. Also the music at half time should add to the atmosphere not be something similar to background music in a restaurant!!!
Like has been said we had an open and frank discussion about what we wanted to hear played, okay that cd was played to death after that, but it at least suited the atmosphere.
As far as 'Cart on' is concerned, no offense to zero but it is not going to be a massive countrywide success and not everyone is going to like it, but you should know you have to put personal feelings about a song aside when you 'DJ' Mr Kirby. ITS OUR SONG PLAY THE FRICKING THING!!!
Also running out to the rocky them tune is utter Camembert, cheese of the gooiest variety!!! As a player, I would be embarressed to be running out to it for that reason alone!!
The one bit of praise I do have on this subject is the use of 'The Great Escape' at the final whistle. This is a piece of music that epitomises us as a football club and I love it!!!
I also think its great a local radio staion are getting involved and showing their support by 'sponsoring' the tannoy on match days.
If you come on here Ricky please refer to these threads for inspiration, as this is what the fans wanted.

Re: Ricky Kirby
Have to agree. He's too much and very irritating. He and his 'music' dominate every free second of the afternoon and so many times I've just wanted him to shut up for a while.
Visitors to the ground have commented on his general 'cheesiness', and if you read other forums you'll see what away fans think of him too.
I'd rather just have silence.

Sorry Sparkie, but that is pure cheese too. It's been done so many times and every club around the country in a relegation zone is playing the same thing.

Re: Ricky Kirby
it might be cheese but it would have applied last season and every season since '62. It may not apply this season yet, but as a club 'The Great Escape' is something we've all been part of!!!

Re: Ricky Kirby
Personally, I cringed on Saturday when, as the players were running out, he said 'come on make some noise - we need all the help we can get'. A real inspiration to the players that!

Re: Ricky Kirby
It's all just too LOUD. I e-mailed rob last week to ask him to get the volume turned down, but the request was obviously ignored. We used to enjoy a natter and abit of banter pre-match and at half time, but now you just can't hear yourself think!

Re: Ricky Kirby
I odnt care one way or the other - it needs to be louder on the terrace and quieter in the stands.
Then as you say start building the atmosphere or tension. A couple of weeks ago he did really well at that and just before the players came out - when we would generally make some noise anyway - he said 'come on Clayton End make some noise' I was just about to start the first chant of the day when 'and just a reminder to everybody that in todays programme .........
what was the point of the first bit?
