Roberts Transfer

Got an e-mail from a friend in East Anglia over Christmas.

It said that the local Ipswich paper had made it clear that the Roberts transfer between Stanley and Ipswich had been finally agreed and the paperwork would be exchanged next week.
The reported fee £180.000
It also said that the Welsh International Football scouts had watched Roberts on a number of occasions but extensive enquires had revealed that he is not eligible to play for Wales.

Re: Roberts Transfer

stolen? more like we've given him to them. everyone who's commented on the transfer agrees the fee should be at least £300,00, perhaps even £500,000. he's clearly a quality player and has been showing that in the championship since his loan.

Re: Roberts Transfer

Having watched football for more years than I care to remember I have never really understood how transfer fees are worked out. Having now found this forum with numerous experts can somebody explain it in simple terms for me

Re: Roberts Transfer

The thing is, we'll never know how much Roberts went for. If the fee is undisclosed, which they normally are, then we will never know for certain.

If he has only gone for £180,000, then we should have kept him until January. He would have helped to ensure our survival in the league, plus we could have sold him for more money.

If this fee is true then the person in another thread who said he had gone on for one season too many is certainly correct, £180,000 Eric you have sold us down the river on this one, very poor.

Re: Roberts Transfer

In the League Paper on Sunday it quoted us as getting a 330,000 windfall in January (180,000 for Gary & 150,000 for Ian) but also went on to say that, as we thought, Alty get 50% of the fee for Ian

Re: Roberts Transfer

Peterboro have just signed George Boyd from Stevenage for £260,000..
If thats the market price for someone of his quality Gary should be on his way in the region of £400,000 - £500,000...

Not so long since Sheffield Wednesday paid about £250,000 each for a couple of players who have been or are being put out on loan because they could not get a place in the first team.
