Nothing probably will change at away games until Sandy Laners stop their petty motive of letting fans who don't sit in their stand integrate songs on the away games. I think they've let their stand down almost every away game this season

Re: Rochdale Thread
A huge following and not a peep from Rochdale. The only noise I heard all game was the 20/30 mindless thugs that were in the pub after the game. To quote 'we go every game away, we dont watch the football, we go to cause trouble'.
Now if we're talking about how fans portray themselves to others surely the actions of the idiots in the Pub, are worse than a few sporadic chants aimed at a town with highest unemployment rate in the country. Anyway i'll leave the politics.
People are very quick to throw the negative on us, particularly considering many who criticise didnt see or hear the Clayton End yesterday. The clayton end was epic, packed to the rafters. I'd go as far to say our backing played a huge part in the fightback from our players. Coleman and Jimmy received an outstanding welcome before and after the game, whats your thoughts on that? Surely its more of a talking point.
Its a local derby fueled by passion and emotions. The chants do not insinuate that everyone in Rochdale is involved in the 'topic' just as everyone in Morecambe is not a cockler, every player for Chelsea is a not Racist, its topical its banter. In fact a few things were aimed in our direction when Stan the Monkey was publicised and the Gambling saga came to light. I didnt take offence and nor should anybody else. We didnt sing about rape, or the abuse to Children, people are looking to far into it and deciphering it down to be personal to all Rochdale fans.
The term 'banter' is used often but thats all it is. It wasnt taken too far as people are making out.

Well said ash, The day the banter is removed from footy, will be a sad day indeed. Most of it is just good craic, there are exceptions everywhere, any fool knows that, but its always those that are highlighted to me,

If banter is taken out of football I'd have to find another use for the 6 fingers I have on each hand

Re: Rochdale Thread
After some time for reflection on yesterdays game I now feel it,s time to air my views great game with some great goals I think stanley should feel aggrieved they did,nt get something out the game and if we had come out the blocks in the first twenty the result would have been far different IMO. As for Toto,s little incident I like Cashy felt it was a stonewall pen but having seen it on tv and the stills on here I would say the ref was wrong the trouble with Toto is his tempremant at times and sometimes I feel it,s just like he wants to impress all the time maybe he needs to stand in the naughty corner for a couple of games he has great potental and you can,t fault him for his enthusiasum he needs a bit more care and growth and under Cooky and Leams wing I think he has a bright future.
As for the long awaited return of the messiah and his ex stanley desiples all I will say is thank goodness it,s all done and dusted and now we can move on with the new regime at stanley, don,t get me wrong we needed to give em the reception that they got which is all well and good but JC & JB are now history as far as Stanley is concerned so now we have got the niceties out of the way lets leave it at that and move on.
Stanley have found in the managment duo of Cooky and Leam IMHO a team who can equal if not surpass the acheivments of the two J,s and if the start of this season is anything to go by to me the futures bright the futures Stanley.
As a footnote it was good to see Rochdale could afford enough material for Mr Craney,s shorts and i wonder if they could find us an old pair we can us to cover the pitch when the frosty weather comes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you think the extra material was responsible for spending more time on his ass than his feet during his cameo appearance

Re: Rochdale Thread
Good post stanley convert, The penalty coulda gone either way, meself i still think it was one, Thing is though that attack would never have occurred anyway if Toto had not been lackadaisical and failed to trap the ball down the other end, simple as.

Re: Rochdale Thread
If there was chanting about the child abuse in Rochdale then I would say the people who were singing are complete and utter morons and need to grow up. I currently live in Southampton so am not able to attend the games, but I guarantee if I'd heard it I would have both told the people singing to shut up and would have reported it to stewards.
For about 4 years [when I was about 15-19 yrs old] I watched Stanley, home and away, sang my heart out, but not at any point did I join in with singing that was so overtly offensive it is almost laughable; and I dont think I ever heard chanting of that nature. It is inexcuseable to join in and it is inexcuseable to just stand and let people spout such offensive bile. A lot of people who heard the offensive singing and didn't like it were probably too shy or not confident enough to say anything. But, there are enough people on that terrace who aren't backward in coming foward, who can let people know when they've overstepped the mark.
The atmosphere at Accrington for some big games over the years has been excellent. We don't need offensive chanting to add to that. Why don't we try and be different to most of the negative stuff you hear about football fans and not put up with it. Excusing it as mere 'banter' is lazy.

Re: Rochdale Thread
Please dont think I was condoning or excusing the chants at all. I was more bothered that a negative was discussed rather than all the benefits that came from the Terrace yesterday. Pro Jimmy Saville chants coming from Rochdale, perhaps it provoked a response from those that sang it.
'Why don't we try and be different'
Slight Insult.
We have one of the most respected supporters groups in the country because we are different.
To be honest, this discussion could spiral/be blown up into a mass debate. Its happened, perhaps those that we're involved will consider the implications of 'topical' chants in the future.
The positives will always outweigh the negatives. This is Stanley
ON STANLEY ON.

Re: Rochdale Thread
Thanks for the reply.
Glad you don't condone the chants and yes I do agree with you that Stanley fans are already different from other clubs. I went to St Marys a couple of weeks ago and the atmosphere was terrible; I reckon stanley fans are the best in the country.
And yes, I don't think the actions of a few should reflect badly on the vast majority of stanley fans. I wrongly got the impression that people on here were just dismissing it as 'banter'.
I guess my reference to being different wasn't meant as an insult to the Ultras. It was simply an aspiration that you might be able to go to the football one day where references to things like the cockling disaster in Morecambe, child abuse in Rochdale, Jimmy Saville, Stan the Monkey, gypsies aren't made....And don't get me wrong, there is defintely more of that kind of thing at other football clubs. Im probably being unrealistic, but we can but dream.

Re: Rochdale Thread
Stanley fans in general have always been more about supporting their own team than slagging the other fans/team, there's always a slip up, particularly against rivals, but SU without a doubt Premiership fans

Re: Rochdale Thread
Loved the game, brilliant atmosphere. Maybe going against the grain of the "John & Jimmy" love in, but didn't feel that the Jimmy Bell "Brian Kidd" impression when they scored in the 1st minute fitted the occasion - lacked a bit of class in my opinion.

Re: Rochdale Thread
Saying that Stanley fans are the best in the country is laughable . i can think of numerous clubs that have better fans. The rochdale game was good but that was the first good atmosphere the crown ground has witnessed in ages.
