Stanley had the ball in the Millers' net fifteen minutes from time, but the linesman had already called offside before Gornell lashed home.

Seems to be the story of our season sofar, why we ant winning theses sort agames with stats from tonights game we should have run out 3/4 2 winners, don't get me wrong Gornell is a good player, and has 10 so far but he needs help from a Andy Bishop type of player a propper goal poacher banging them in for the fun of it IMHO

Re: Rotherham Thread
We are powder puff in front of goal and never seem to be able to convert the half chances. My heart sank when Coley brought on McConville for Charlie, leaving Putterill still on the bench, for God's sake. Sure enough, his only contribution was a terrible miss, weakly shooting straight at the keeper's midriff from a great position in the box with an open goal beckoning. God, what an awful place to watch football, the home crowd silent until the last 10 minutes. Should have taken my binoculars.

ASFC News Story > 3862 The gaffer's thoughts on the game. Just got back, apologies there was not more updates but the internet kept dropping off at the ground!
Jimmy Ryan's thoughts on the game will be on the fishy site tomorrow afternoon.

Stanley must have one of the biggest squads in the League, one that they can ill afford to keep yet almost a full team of 1st team Pro's never get a look in. Too many players know they will start every match regardless of their performances.
I'd like to see a few fringe players given a chance, but i won't happen. It will be same again come Saturday.
Sneaky edit there to change it to a 2 nil defeat Mr Beast !!

Yeah in hindsight it looks like a bit of a rollicking larry....wasn't meant to - just genuinely wondered how you would change things. We do have the squad players and I don't automatically defend coley - but I don't get to many games (certainly not reserve games) so don't really know how the others are performing.

I agree entirely about Jonny Bateson. What on earth has happened? He doesn't even make it to the list of subs now.
Not sure I agree about some players being in the comfort zone, though. I think we have a solid "first" squad of about 13 or 14, and those not in that group are really not up to it. That first squad generally plays well - the problem is the lack of a stiking partnership. In the absence of a Le Fondre or Bishop type player, surely it is time to let Terry Gornell and Craig Lindfield try to establish a partnership.

Re: Rotherham Thread
Its a funny one with Jon Bateson ( whos a very good player),the only reason I can think of is that in his last two starts the team conceeded 8 goals and got himself sent off when the game was lost against Bury.
I dont know if he responded with mom displays in the resis or not as I only saw the preston match and he was subbed.
The manager and coaches see all the players train daily,so to me ,its upto the player to catch there eye.
Same with Micheal Hall, who is a good player ,but couldnt force his way into the first team,

Re: Rotherham Thread
Not the best performance ever at the worse and only running track in the league! Gornell ran his socks off for nothing. Both Craney and especially Jimmy were just fustrated all the time and there keeper pulled of superb saves to stop us getting anything! Boring , boring game!
