Rubbish left behind

When on the terraces at a football match,do you stop and think of the rubbish left behind ?
On Monday morning the terraces at Clayton end were an absolute disgrace , paper torn into small pieces covering most of the area. I am not pointing fingers ,though I do believe it to be the area were the Ultras stand.many fans both home and away praise the Ultras for their loyal support towards the their team, well come on Ultras show some support for the people who have to clean the mess up that you leave behind, show some curtosy and take your rubbish home.I do not mean chip tray, polystyrene cups, but I do mean do not make a mess deliberately. Please stop and think again.Your actions are costing the club money, money that is needed for better things.

I am a volunteer, but not for much longer if that is what faces me after a home game.

I meant more volunteers, to help - think that the burger vans have some responsibilty also making huge profits from supplying the litter in the 1st place - also have some fixed litter bins visable at each ends of terrace so people are able to put litter in the bin as nobody is really gonna take it home seriously!

Its a football terrace not a living room. its what happens on most grounds.

Re: Rubbish left behind

Greeny I'd just like to thank you for all your hard work cleaning around the ground, but, in reality its a football ground not a palace! I'd hate to see what you'd think of the amount of rubbish left at other grounds. I think ours is relatively clean in comparison. And before you ask yes I have done the job.

Re: Rubbish left behind

Well Sara, I do seem to have started something, didn't intend too.I am not after praise,I just like to help the club when I can. But with the response today, maybe I should have just withdrawn from helping and said nothing.

Please don't get me wrong I really do understand what you mean and its a thankless task. On reflection it must have been worse than normal for you to say something. Sorry for being a touch over the top in my reaction!

Re: Rubbish left behind

Greeny, are you sure that its "deliberate" trash ? i read your post carefully, and i must say, I would be very upset if people are actually tearing up paper/leaving rubbish behind on purpose. if we had a squad of paid cleaners or something it would be different, but accy stanley depends on volunteer help in so many areas that the whole point of fans, volunteers etc is to try and work together.

in any event i am absolutely and totally appreciative of the work you and other volunteers put in, and therefore i hope you will accept my apology. over the course of the season I know you have done the job unstintingly. Hats off to you for that, so i know that if you took the trouble to post, there must be a reason.

and also, greeny, I would not be put off by bulletin board bullies. DOnt worry about their responses. Say what you want, when you want, and how you want. as long as you post with courtesy and honesty, nothing else really matters !
thanks
Ilyas

Re: Rubbish left behind

Greeny, I apologise for the 'jokey', flippant and 'excuse' replies even if it is a forum.

We know it's not a palace or a living room but surely self-respect is not limited to those areas.

You are understanding of the refreshment rubbish although there are big litter bins next to the sales vans which don't provide the litter but suitable containers for the customer.

The fact that it is a football ground is not an excuse, nor is comparison with any other. This is OUR football ground where we can watch OUR team and take pride in ALL that entails.

Thank you for your efforts in trying to maintain that pride just like the ultras do with their banners and unique support.

Re: Rubbish left behind

Gosh Ilyas that was a quick response. Yes there was paper torn up into thousands of pieces, took my hubby and me two hours to fill two large carrierbags with them.Only sorry I did not have my camera with me.It was sparklers and condoms the other week, I must admit though I did giggle when I came across them.

Re: Rubbish left behind

I was mearely trying to help greeny, suggesting help, suggesting co operation from food vans and making secure bins more visable around exits so people may clear up after themselves. Didn't see post as a winge just pointing out a small problem and suggestion to help sort it

Re: Rubbish left behind

stanley mad, it was not aimed at you - those of us who know greeny also know her for the sweet gentle and generous soul that she is, and the unecessary bulletin board bullying was out of order in my view and thats why i posted.

sorry - i guess we all have better things to worry about !!

Re: Rubbish left behind

Let me attempt to add to Ilyas's wise words, although for the first time in ages I didn't have a need to go to the Clayton End on Sunday, as somebody had kindly put that wheely bin out for collection

1) The stewards have been asked by the club as match day workers to remove as much rubbish as they can straight after the game as part of their match duties.

2) Whats left is removed by voluntary labour, the day after the game. Having cleaned the ground on many occasions, it's not a pleasant job.

3) Litter bins of any size on grounds are issues at present. Remember York at home when a bin was throw on the pitch. The poor Rovers fan who was hurt on the concourse at Stoke, was injured with a bin. Current advice is that all bins should be removed or at least secured to prevent using a toys/missiles. You may have noticed my crude attempt all tieing bins to posts etc and removing those that we can't secure. I also believe that the club are looking to buy in a better solution.

4) With regard to the "litter" "Greeny" is I think referring to. (apologises if I'm wrong) I suspect there are times when the masses on the terraces have used "ticker tape" and streamer type displays at games. Whilst it does look good, IMHO itdoes leave a mess and is difficult to pick up, espicially when fans have be "bouncing"!!

I'm not preaching, nor have I any solutions

All I will say without our army of volunteers; ticket sellers, cleaners, gatemen, plumbers, ball boys, doormen, programme sellers, (apologises if anybody has been missed!!)
