Saturday in the Broadway

I went for a few pints with less in the Broadway on Saturday at 12
forgetting there was a football match on as both of us do not follow the sport.
anyway we went out for a smoke in the (heated smoke area & garden)
and when we got back in the place was full of supporters from Bradford
we did not even know at the time what teams where playing until we asked
anyway they where a friendly lot and we had a good chat and a joke with some and we both handed out accyweb cards that was much appreciated and with promises of we will have a look at the site we sat down again within 2 Min's and for no reason we could see there was 4 police officers in the pub why we do not know there was absolutely no trouble in the pub
talk about heavy handed policing .
we finished our drinks and went to leave as we stepped outside there was more police than fans why again no idea they where in the Hope & Anchor as well and riot vans and police vans allover yet we could not see a need for such police presence.
I think this heavy police Presence will put a lot of new fans thinking of going and taking there children to a match right off.
and i don't think it is needed

Re: Saturday in the Broadway

Bradford fans have 'form' for a bit of bother and are assessed as such. Police in the pub is a common sight when there are a number of fans travelling as with Bradford and they would probably have been Bradford police as local plod often travel with there fans. Last time we played them on New Years Day the local police recommended that all the pubs near to the ground close for the afternoon.

You don't say what the 'heavy handedness' was so I can't comment but if it was just a heavy presence then there would probably have been a good reason. The nutters are often very pleasant until only moments before they decide to wreck a pub

I think you've got it spot on, Maccawozzagod.

If fans of a particular team have a reputation for trouble making then a bit of forward planning takes place and there will be heavy police presence to stop any trouble before it gets serious.

Mick, you'd have been glad of this had those fans started a fight in the Broadway. As Maccawozzagod says, some of them can go from perfectly pleasant to throwing glasses in seconds.
