Season ahead??
Not long now before the start of our 17th season in the Football League
What are your thoughts on the season ahead??
Who is in your XI and how do they set up?
I have said this for a couple of seasons now, but we must be due a run in a cup?!?!?!
We have a big squad - for a change which is not something I fancy to be honest and I think we all know Coley has his 13/15 'core' players and does not deviate away from these, apart from bans and injuries!
What would be a decent season in your eyes and what would be a brilliant one?
Coley seems to be sticking with 3-5-2 (not for me, but I will bow down the the Genius)
Jensen
Harvey Notts Jay Rich
Mitch Leigh Pell Macca Hamilton
Lowe Woods

Well we already have a few injuries the 3-5-2 formation at least plays two strikers upfront a must for me especially at home line up for tomorrow :-
Jenson
Clark Rodgers. Baghuelou. Sangare
Hamilton. Coyle. Pritchard Mcconville
Lowe. Sisay.
Subs:-. Isherwood Proctor Martin Conneely Pell. Leigh Whalley Nolan Adeoyin

The actual first team squad isn't that big 38 with 13 under 23,s in that and 2 loaners that leaves 23 and you can name upto 9 subs this season and use 5.

Re: Season ahead??
i think we will have a better season than the last one.a brilliant season would be the play offs.what i have seen from the 5 friendlies has led me to that conclusion.

Re: Season ahead??
A top 10 finish would be wonderful...of course I would like the play offs, but would most likely be 'gutted' with the probable outcome. I don't like being gutted.

Re: Season ahead??
I think that Stanley will finish in mid table again, similar to the last two seasons.
For me there are still questions about our goal scoring ability with the loss of Bishop and Charles. Also losing Ross Sykes is a big loss as he scores goals and was becoming a real force at centre back. I hope that one of our relatively untried strikers comes good and builds a good goal scoring tally.
My starting eleven assuming that the whole squad is injury free would be a four four two formation:
Jensen
Clark Nottingham Rich-Baghuelo Sangare
Longelo Leigh Hamilton MacConville
Lowe Adedoyin
For Saturday against Charlton if Nottingham and Sangare are still injured my eleven would be:
Jensen
Clark Astley Rich-Baghuelo Rodgers
Longelo Leigh Hamilton MacConville
Lowe Adedoyin

Re: Season ahead??
fwiw, the pre season friendlies we seemed to be playing 4-2-3-1 for most games.
whilst i'm a fan of 2 strikers up front, i'd be happy with that formation if it meant we didn't play 3/5 at the back!
All being fit, my line up would be;
Jensen
Clark Notts JRB Sangare
Coyle Hamilton
Pritchard Leigh McConville
Lowe

I agree Josh about your comment on preferring 4 to 3 at the back, if you play 3 they have to all be very comfortable on the ball and know at all times were their fellow center,s are roaring upfront and trying to score is great but not when it leaves you horribly exposed at the back which happened far too much for my liking and the management probably on too many occasions both home and away last season.

Would love us to revert back to 4-2-3-1 Josh

Well, Jay Rich is out for the season and Harry has gone
Also, seem to be playing several different systems?!?
Will have a re-think
Not a bad start to the season, but got to start winning games - at home especially

Re: Season ahead??
Not enough quality or competition for places in the current squad of fit players. Set piece goals don't happen often enoigh. Poor recruitment has really hit us this year. It is of course down to the manager. Has he got enough resources for League 1? Probably not. His record is excellent and so I'm guessing we don't have a big enough player budget. I also think he knows that and that is why he has hinted that he would like to reduce money spent on the developement squad next season.

I suppose it's about trying to find the right balance the other problem is especially in a January window attracting experienced players in the money, league position plus the possibility of relegation players might want release clauses writing in in case we go down very difficult when you are the smallest fish in the pond and it would be the same for any manager here on recruitment.
