Re: Slighty late Crewe match thread............
As others have said Long my man of the match for a dismal Stanley but at least Proccy getting it put a smile on my face. I don,t remember Murdoch having to make a save this afternoon and we should have been out of sight by half time but as they say if ya don,t take your chances, to be fair Phillips in their goal did pull off at least two oustanding fingertip saves and we had two others booted off the line, but hey oh it,s history now and hopefully a 90 minute rollocking will have got through.
The problem I have is I cannot see where the goals are gonna come from and not because we have a lack of talent with fletch, Ammo and to a certain extent Linfield but the the midfield is not up to the job of delivering the quality balls, this afternoon we spent to much time back peddling playing tipy tapy football against an average Crewe side we need to attack and be in the mix at least that way if we get beat you can at least say we gave it a go and I,m sure that is all the gaffer wants

This is where I feel sticking with the formation that served well last year falls down. Last season we had players such as Ryan & McConville who could worry and unlock defences. Players with drive.
Forget talk of having a hangover from the play-offs. To my mind, we've been sussed out. Serving up the same old, same old formation wise makes it easier for the opposition to formulate a gameplan to negate the tactic. Plus I don't think we've got the players on board at the moment to make that tactic work !!!
To me, it was strickingly obvious ......we lacked pace, width and more so penetration. We spent the majority of the game trying to build slowly from the back (unsuccesfully), attempting to play the ball around in midfield and playing the ball around in front of a well organised defence. All well and good if you have the quality of player that can make that killer pass that unlocks defences...
Whilst I'd agree that some of the new lads needed time to settle in / gel, I think that we're way, way too predictable.
One up top, for me at least, isn't working. We're not giving the opposition enough to worry about !!!!
There, to me, lies the reason for the lack of goals scored.

Re: Slighty late Crewe match thread............
I agree with you carpon, scouts from other teams have worked Acci out at the moment, but one thing that is missing from last season is the pressing of the ball.
That was our strengh last season and now our weakness.
Ryan used to set the tempo before, but now were very rigid.
Disagree a little about creating chances,we had enough to win the game, its converting them!!!,top scorer has only two in nine league games is not good enough.
Think getting coid fit is key to getting us flying again

Good post carpon, meself i reckon though many may disagree, we should start wi Craney, reason being hes the only one capable of creating, too often this season in second half we are chasing a deficit, would have more chance if the opposition had to do that! ok substitute him if he tires but at least more chance of having a lead, also think revert to 4-4-2,

Re: Slighty late Crewe match thread............
Agree about craney starting, but i would go 4-3-3 when attacking,and4-5-1 when defending, the reason being we have no natural width, and we are starting to rely on the fullbacks to do this, which in turn leaves you open to be counter attacked

Re: Slighty late Crewe match thread............
I think that we should have started with I.C. yesterday, we were at home, against a footballing side, who are a bunch of kids!! If ever we could have carried anybody, it was yesterday!! Coley needs to wise up and think of the game/team we are playing!!!
