Re: Somebody start a match thread........
To be honest I was gutted we only drew.Although they had a bit of possession in the first half,I can't recall our keeper making a save.
I won't waste my time talking about the linesman,as it was obvious he backed a draw on the coupon.
Acci started off in there normal system, but held a higher line than normal and the fullbacks tucked in a little more.
They played a 4-1-2-3 system with two wingers, and although we give them the width, our defending was solid with no gaps, and any crosses were easily dealt with.
We should have scored more really, with two disallowed goals and two good chances.
Positives from the performance were the centre backs, who were positive all night and the attacking three of hadfield, boco and in particular Gray who impressed me.
Although he had a quite first half, thought Miller ran the game in the second, just think how good he could be with a season under his belt!
Liam seems to made us a lot tighter, were Cook tried to open the game up.
He was a class defender in his time and hopefully it rubs off on our lads,I can already see little changes, which suggests he knows what he's doing.

Re: Somebody start a match thread........
No mention of Beattie's debut F19? I rate Amond 100% for selfless effort but Beattie produced more threat in 15 mins than Paddy in 90. Of course it's yet to be seen if he can go more than 15 .... Romy mom for me, just a touch more class (most of the time).

Re: Somebody start a match thread........
I've refereed many games in my time and I hate to criticise officials because it isn't a particularly easy job but I am sick to death of them thinking that we pay our money to watch them. I don't know for sure, but the indication for the retake of the penalty was that Bavs came off his line too soon. Well, in that case I expect to see every penalty in every game of every league retaken. Ok, letter of the law says it was a retake but reality is a different thing. The dumpy little liner that was running the touchline in front of us wanted no more than to be the centre of attention and seemed to be contending with the ref for 'Google Page Ranking!ck-of-the-match' award (apologies if that language is deemed inappropriate; I don't wish to offend). I am just so frustrated. We weren't at our best and our possession in the first half gave me cause for concern but that was down to the slope. Thankfully we will never have to play at Underhill again; the league should have banned their entry from the Conference. The second half was exactly the opposite and we deserved more than we got. Rant over...for now!

Nice one Leam. Ref was collins from surrey, Liners were from mars.

Re: Somebody start a match thread........
Can't disagree chimer, rommy was class all night, quick, good feet and a great work ethic,Gray was also good and Hatfield in the number ten role give everything. That bloody slope tho contributes a lot how games pan out there, and the first half they had a real go and we should be talking about our effort not the officials.
Paddy never stopped running, but there centre backs were just too big and fast for him, were Beattie unsettled them just by his presence.
Maybe paddy can challenge Will for the number ten role as an option, just a thought

Nail on the head. The other thing to mention is that the same linesman who ordered the retake also gave the pen in the first place after an incident that no-one saw and no one appealed for. A mystery penalty award followed by another superb Bavs save, followed by another ridiculous decision. No wonder the Barnet fans were singing "We love you lino, we do." Poor Bavs kept his composure well but went ballistic after the game, and for good reason.
An away point is not to be sniffed at, but all three were there for the taking. Gray headed a great chance over the bar and Atkinson was very close with a first-half header. Although we can get away with it at places like Barnet and Wimbledon, a worrying question mark that looms over the coming winter months is whether we can compete against the better sides with no specialist full-backs and with a left-midfield berth filled each week by whichever striker is second in the pecking order to Podge. If we have to rationalise the squad a little in order to make a couple of judicious loan signings in these areas, then I'd say it was a risk worth taking.

Re: Somebody start a match thread........
Interesting comment that Phil, "specialist fullbacks", is that so we conceed less goals or we score more goals?.Putting my impartial head on for a minute, this could be a good debate.
I personally feel its a mith that statement and most of the prem league fullbacks started out as wingers so they are obviously good attacking, but most can't defend.
England's two fullbacks,Cole and Johnson, are they really good defenders?,
With fullbacks have caught your eye both offensively and defensively in the last couple of seasons?
To me it's how the coaches want you to play that really counts,if they say stay back ,you do !

Re: Somebody start a match thread........
The ref. was L Collins
The two linesman officiating at the match were Mathew Buonassisi & R Kendall
Not sure which linesman was responsible for the penalty & retake fiasco
But if it was Mathew Buonassisi
it’s not the first time there has been controversy over his decisions
found this on rate the ref
Mathew Buonassisi

Hi Mr W
Definitely so that we are less vulnerable against sides who attack us with pace and width.
Agreed that there’s nothing wrong with asking players to develop some utility to their game, but only if it complements their natural playing strengths. I take your argument that many full-backs start out as wingers, but the likes of Cole (a very good defender) and Johnson (less so) have been playing full-back for years now, and those who convert successfully have at least some of the ingredients that make a good full-back.
The problem I highlighted with our squad is not just that we are asking players who have never played at the back to play there, but that they don’t have the assets in the locker to do the job. This isn’t a criticism of any given player – it’s hardly their fault that they’ve signed on as a forward and then look out of sorts at right-back or left midfield.
Also, by playing these lads out of position, we are compromising the effectiveness of the system. Take Lee Molyneux – incidentally (like Jacobson before him) an example of an attacker with the basic requisites to get by as a full-back. That left-midfield berth is made for him. He was our best creative player at Dagenham when he was given license to run at them. He does a good job for us at left-back, but consequently we struggle to get behind teams down the left as we don’t have any other left-sided players who can offer that combination of flair and work-rate that the system needs – what Rommy gives us down the right.
It’s frustrating because we have the makings of a good side, but I worry that we might pay for not plugging these obvious gaps.
