Question Something to think about....

Just been thinking the other day, we won League 2 - what seems like forever ago - and the others who came up with us were:- Luton, Coventry and Wycombe.

Wycombe went on to the Championship and are now an established League 1 team.

The other two are in the Championship and one will be in the top flight next season!!!!!!!!

Meanwhile, we are back in League 2...................

Luton and Coventry are big teams, with large fan bases, but Wycombe are neither.....

Re: Something to think about....

Can't re write history Valarian and if I'm honest no point in regurgitating the hot debate before the season started about budgets investment etc.
If you don't invest properly in the product on the pitch it will bite you on the back side.
Great pitch great facilities great dressing rooms etc ............ a credit to the Owner.
However the player recruitment side a mile off.

Re: Something to think about....

How well I remember travelling with the red army in Feb 2018 to witness Stanley humble Coventry in front of 27,000 home fans.
At the time, the once great Coventry were reduced to playing in football's 4th tier.
Just goes to show what a topsy-turvy game football is with their potential return to the premier league & why our drop into L2 is not the end of the world.

Re: Something to think about....

I'd swap that new stand for a no 9 in a heartbeat.

You were proved right over the last season, 28th regards recruitment.
However, the new stand, pitch, bar, hospitality, changing rooms, etc are now there.
So, hopefully, the focus with what money the club now has can be directed to players.
However, whilst most of last year’s imports didn’t prove adequate, the club could easily spend a fortune on ‘high-wage’ players only for them to also spend the season on the physio’s bench.

Then that's all down to the recruitment isn't it ?
Get the right ones in.
I don't share your optimism on funds being directed to the squad.
The belt will be tightened if anything.

Re: Something to think about....

I think a few might be surprised at who we keep and who we let go, would love Hamilton to stay and build the midfield around him with the likes of Martin, Coyle and Sangare a decent season in league 2 could benefit both player and club in the future.

Why would we be surprised Andy ?
If a player is under contract you can't force him out of the door.
Equally if out of contract either the club makes an offer or they don't.
The message is loud and clear the squad is getting trimmed right down.

Re: Something to think about....

Some of the old guard who are out of contract might be going who many might expect a contract offer only guessing we will find out shortly hopefully.

It needs to be not just the signing,s that John admitted didn't deliver but some of the older ones has well.
