Re: Southend Thread.
It's days like today that make all the slogging up and down the motorway system worthwhile.
Yes we rode our luck at times, but the character and commitment shown by our young side was a credit to them and the management team.
Even after all these years I still feel a huge sense of pride when little old Accrington Stanley travel to long established sides like Southend, upset the odds, and come away with all three points.
Great performance. Great result.

Good on you, mate. I'm very proud of your little band! I can't make those long trips any more, but I always used to think the longer the journey, the sweeter the fruits of victory.

Re: Southend Thread.
Settle for a clean sheet and a away win in very very hot conditions. The game started with us playing 4-2-3-1,which once again gave us a defensive look, but a bit of possession early on.
They set up 4-1-3-2,which to be fair, pinned our fullbacks back and let there's get forward.
Have to disagree about liddle, although stitched up on a few occasions,a fullbacks first job is to stop crosses coming in,and stopped counting at ten !!,this in turn allowed them to attack the back post, and linney was under pressure.(to be fair to liddle, the lad in front of him wasn't tracking the right back)
Enter the master tactician Cook!,bring dean on at right back, push linney forward, and shunt the midfield across which made us more solid.
We nicked a goal and looked solid.
They then brought on a centre back up front, and the bombardment started.
Once again,Cooky read it,pulled linney deeper and moved dean across to give us three centre backs.
Bav will get the plaudits (and rightly so),but the managers reading of the game was key,and wasn't frightened to make early subs
Would coley have done that?,0-0 away from home?,very much doubt it.
Big mention for all the lads making there debuts, all played there part, keep an eye out for young Miller, like what I am seeing

Re: Southend Thread.
It does seem in Cooky and Leam we've got a management team who actively participate during the 90 minutes of a match. Coley is a cracking coach but you did get he feeling when the match was being played he was a spectator like the rest of us.

Re: Southend Thread.
I might be a touch over cautious when it comes to the prediction league, but I've a real good feeling about our Paul / Leam management team. John 'n Jimmy must have enjoyed Stanley fans' support during their reign and I'm sure the new kings can rely on similar support and patience from us. Well done lads and power to your elbows.

Re: Southend Thread.
I know southend supporters were sulking but they are a good team and will be in the mix at the end of the season, which makes the result more impressive

Re: Southend Thread.
Forgot to mention podge when he came on, his hold up play and closing down was worth a mention and gave us an outlet at vital times

Re: Southend Thread.
It seems that the highlights are now on Sky's site and no longer on the BBC's match report page. Here's a link to 57 seconds' worth plus advert, although it looks exactly the same as on the BBC's FL Show: Sky Sports | Video | Football | League Two | Accrington Stanley
