Re: Southend today
It was a good game spoilt with a bad ref. From where I sit the two penalties were dives, we all got splashed in the main stand.
Why do we get ref after ref giving everything to the opposition , they make us look like a dirty team. I hope we get a fair unbiased ref for rest of season , but I'm not holding my breathe. I was impressed with Luke Simpson. Good luck on Tues at Leeds.

I was talking to the Southend scout before the Chorley game. Despite the oppositon being of different quality I don't think Sunbeds Brown will have had to change the plan from the report too much.

The key word there 'better'. A certain Stanley forward is awful at it, despite trying it for 99% of the time he spends on the pitch.

Re: Southend today
Stats say that we had 6 shots, none on target, and they had 10 with 7 of them accurate .....
Betts was on the bench for Fulham.
First manager already gone - Mark Robins at Huddersfield after a 4-0 drubbing by the Cherries.

Re: Southend today
From my viewpoint it looked as though both penalty decisions were soft at best. The first decision was bought as Shaquille (really?) Coulthirst was just waiting to get into the box before running into Adam Buxton's leg. Very cheap, very unfair. After seeing the second decision again it looks as though Dean was trying to play the ball and unfortunately caught his man. Again - soft.
I thought a draw would have been fair despite Southend being physically stronger. Yes, Myles Weston fired straight at Luke Simpson a couple of times - but James Gray ballooned our best chance in the first half after a great move, all because he tried a futsal finish instead of prioritising the target.
We are weak in central midfield. Nicky Hunt was absent aside from covering Buxton's full back position. Had he imposed himself more on the opposition in central areas, Josh Windass might have got on the ball more and created chances.
I'm not too worried about the overall quality of the team because, as was mentioned earlier in the thread, we look a whole lot better than at this time last year. Lots of room for improvement though. Hope we can bring in a first team standard midfield player and not just a kid on loan from the Prem.
One last grumble: There are too many yellow boots and Alice bands in the side for the level of performance at the moment. Certain players need to realise their level, get their work ethic sorted and actually achieve something before acting like accomplished pro's!
On a more positive note, congratulations to Buzzer on making the best pitch I've ever seen at the Crown. Well done.

Re: Southend today
Trip people up in the box and penalties will be given. Stanley had plenty of warnings with both full backs being exposed badly in the first half.
Southend were a much better team, Stanley may need a few emergency loans in September to find their feet against such teams.

Re: Southend today
Must agree with shaker, the penalties were soft, although the first was bought as Dean held the lad up whilst Adam got back and he knew what he was doing when Adam got across him, down he went.
The second was the same, started with giving a cheap free kick away ,allowing their big lads to get forward who out jumped Hunty and although Dean seemed to have got in a good position to clear, the lad got across him with a toe tackle and was on his way down before contact was made.
Both were penalties although we have to learn don't give cheap free kicks and corners when the opposition are loaded with height and good headers of the ball.
Agree about the pitch, excellent,no complaints there

The only thing you will need when you play us, mate, is passion, which you always seem to lack in spades.

Re: Southend today
Got to agree Mab, looks like he never got touched and the ref got conned, big style. One point though, I thought Luke Simpson should possibly have stood still instead of telegraphing he was diving to his right! But can't complain overall, he was one of the best Stanley players on the pitch.

Re: Southend today
Just watched the Football League Show. Thought the first penalty was soft and the second one nearly has me as baffled as the one the same muppet gave against Deano at Burton last season.
