Re: Southport tonight

All credit to Southport, can only wish them all the best for the rest of their season. Gutted with the result and feel very disappointed for the lads. 11 points on the card with 21 point to play for, I reckon with have it tucked away by Scarborough.

Re: Southport tonight

If tonight was anything to go by, there will be no chance of Stanley winning this league or getting promotion by the play-offs. We were truly awful. Devoid of ideas, too many hit and hope balls and too much showboating. It is time to play the K.I.S.S. method of football I think (keep it Simple Stanley). When they did pass the ball on the deck they looked good, but too often Southport had two or three defenders/midfielders defending the ball. When we had a chance to score - we blew that as well. So to summarise - end of our unbeaten run (and Southport deserved it) and first game this season that we have not scored (nor looked likely too - penalty excluded). To all those saying we are already up I say SHUT UP - we are not there yet and still need 14 points to make certain. Just hope that the real footballing side turns up at York on Saturday.

Unhappy Re: Southport tonight

Very disappointing result tonight - my bro went and he said we were dog poo but saying that congratulations Southport - they managed to do what no one else in the league could do (and yes Hereford that means you) for the past 6 months nearly - yes 6 months we hadnt been beaten in the league and scored in every game - thats some feat so all you wheels come off posters that are due here any minute now can just shove it back in the cack hole you post it from as far as Im concerned...

I bet you my last Cypriot pound we go to York on Saturday and get a result...

Re: Southport tonight

Too many players under-performing tonight. We were way off the pace all night and the only other emotion I felt beside disappointment, was embarrassment.

Stanley are a Jeckyl and Hyde side and it was the monster that turned up tonight. Poor passing, big hoof, and a complete inability to change things.

A massive improvement is needed for Saturday or we're going to lose again. No two ways about it.

Re: Southport tonight

At least 2 of our non-performing back four won't be available for the next match.

Re: Southport tonight

There was nothing wrong with the defense. A couple of stupid cock ups yes but nothing seriously wrong. The back 3 were the only members of the team playing in the second half. Gary Roberts was abysmal.

Re: Southport tonight

I was that engrossed in the match and slamming my fist on the dashboard that took a wrong turn off the motorway and ended up going 40 miles out of my way. The commentator said that Soutport were well worth their points and had succeeded in keeping the ball off the floor where they would certainly be outplayed.

Bloody Dickinson! How come in every league we play in there is one particular keeper who does his absolute utmost to deny Stanley. My old mate Simon Marsh at Chorley was the worst but Dicko runs him close. Not many shots on target but he was there when he needed to be and made one cracking double save from Mangy and Boco on top of the penalty save.

Re: Southport tonight

At the beginning of this thread I asked which team would show up tonight - well now we know the answer. It was all hoofing the ball aimlessly upfield with the Stanley despairingly fans crying out to the lads to keep the ball on the deck. I'm not sure who no. 22 was but I was convinced at first it was a returning Ged Brannan, equally ineffective and deservedly substituted. This defeat was waiting to happen judged on our recent performances and Coley now faces his biggest test yet in reversing the dire style of play we have sunk to. I will of course be at York hoping for a miracle but I'm not sure how many of the very good following tonight, many leaving early, will be so keen, unfortunately.
I'm very depressed after tonight as I can't see where the next win is coming from.
Let's hope Jimbo is right!

Re: Southport tonight

Christies Child - if you care to look at other posts I have made, I have not been shouting that we are guaranteed to go up - I will only believe it when it happens, however, if the same team turns up on the pitch as did tonight and I was there - then I stand by what I said in my post we were ****e and we can forget promotion!!

Redraine - the Stanley number 22 was Mark Boyd who we signed after he was released from his contract at Gretna - no doubt if I am wrong someone will correct me. He played too deep for me but held the ball well and played some efficient passes.

Re: Southport tonight

Coleman was on the radio saying that he wasn't disappointed in the performance!!! I'm all for defending the team, but when you can't string 3 passes together, the performance can't be described as ok.

Really?, that doesn't sound like John Coleman - can I have some of the same medication that he's on!
I stood there in shock last night, hardly believing what I was seeing on the pitch. Our midfield was awful, can't remember seeing such a disjointed performance but all credit to Southport who had done their homework and knew if they could keep the ball in the air they were in with a chance of beating us. At the end of the day they deserved the win - we didn't, simple as that. I just hope we have Tretts fit for York on Saturday
