STADIUM STANLEY: Official Thread
Right folks just for a bit of fun I'd like a few Ideas from yourselves regarding what you would like to see incorporated in a new stadium.
This is of course completely fictional and probably never see the light off day, well not at Stanley anyway as there is no need really for a completley new stadium.
Firstly I'd Like to see RED SEATS!!!

Re: STADIUM STANLEY: Official Thread
I'll avoid saying what I would like to see as it is pretty much unachievable (oops spoilt the spirit of the thread!) but I would like to offer a few ideas of what I think is achievable in the relatively short term.
I'll start with the bar as that is one of the few areas of the ground that should or could generate its own money. I'd like to see it extended out towards the main turnstiles. I realise that the gas bottles are kept in that area but I am sure things can be rejigged. From the outside of the ground that is a funny looking little triangular area that I'd square off. The gents and ladies toilets would then be put there with access pretty much from where the gents are now. That would then allow the current toilet areas to be opened out which probably add another 25% to the capacity of the bar. I would like to see access to the bar allocated from this end (as well as the other side not instead of) which would a) make the entrance a little more welcoming for non match day patrons and b) would allow for any building work to extend the other side of the clubhouse where current car parking is given. Lose the 15 car park spaces they are not essential. The bar could if necessary go right the way down to the corner of the ground (with two turnstiles one ot each 'area' of the ground?) The bar is currently massively under used for a variety of reasons and it needs revitalising.
The new brick built extension could probably be carried on past the turnstiles to take in the current shop/office set up and right up to the next turnstile.
Advertising boards - I haven't really seen whether these are fully allocated this season but I would guess not (nowt really to do with Stanley more a guess on the current economy) but they could possibly be made a foot smaller which would increase the amount of boards by 12.5%. I'd also like to see more boards on top of structures such as the stands. This could nearly double the amount of boards. I'd knock the price down a goodly amount to increase the need to book them up quickly. Current price of £600 per season? Reduce it by a 1/3rd but double the amount of boards. That only means a 32% increase in revenue BUT IT GETS MORE BUSINESSES INVOLVED IN THE CLUB. I'd also throw in a free Sportsmans dinner for all who take up a board - if we have too many sponsors then make it two Sportsmans. Give em a freebie and make them feel welcome, make them feel like they are appreciated, make them feel special, make them feel as though they are actually part of the club. They'll repay the cost of the dinner with bar takings, we'll use the raffles and auctions to make a profit! We need the businessmen of Hyndburn to believe that the club is capable of benefitting them. If we are facilitating as many 'networking' opportunities as possible for them then that benefits everybody yes?
Clayton End - well behind it more to the point. I realise that the railings between the brick structures were put there to reduce the cost of walling in the ground. But it means that the concourse is open to the elements - and that doesn't encourage people to hang about (and spend their money). Move the portakabin bogs, the food bar and the beer hut to the railing side. This would give a bit more of a wind break to the fans. I'd like to see them actually bricked in and made into permanent structures. I truly think it would make us look a lot less tinpot and would probably get more people to spend there brass on food and drink. We could quite easily add a 'stall' or two as well and turn the area into a plaza! Club shop? Chocolate stall for the kids? shop space to hire out?
Another thing this would do create a 50m long bare wall which could be used for an infinite amount of uses. Match posters for the next game? away travel info? event night adverts? OSC meeting adverts? good old fashioned saleable advertising spaces!
Move the changing rooms! The players park their cars at the Clayton End and then have to walk past people all the way down to the other end to get in. Build the changing rooms at the Clayton End/Cowshed corner and let them run on through a wall of their own fans' noise, let us barrack the ref as they leave the field, let us abuse the away team at half time. This would have implications on access to the Cowshed but no-one will be there next year anyway when the blue seats go in!
Shirts for £30 - encourage more sales!!!!!!!!! Yes I know that reducing by a tenner (25%) means we need to sell a 1/3 more to make the same turnover but it is about more than that. A third more people wearing the shirt means more people around town are noticing that Accrington has a town team and people do actually go. It means that people start to feel left out and want to join in. It means that a third more people may feel a bit more Stanleyfied every time they pull on the shirt. And for Gods sake get some kind of partnership going with a shop in town. Not one that sells Holidays (no offence FE) but one that sells clothes. One that more than 10 people a day go into. Give em wholesale rates and let em keep a fiver for everyone they sell.
Involve the fans more! The OSC puts on the occasional night with singers etc. They aren't particularly well supported and often don't break even with the cost of the singer etc. But if you factor in the bar takings then they do break even - they make a profit. Get some on Eric, book a good comedian and have a blue night, a stripper night, Anne Summers nights.
The main gist of what I am talking about is not about new builds, its not about how can make a quid here and there without spending anything. It's about trying to box in what we already have. It's no good having central heated fitted if you don't have double glazing or loft insulation.
Let's get the window fitters in please.

Re: STADIUM STANLEY: Official Thread
1968 Lounge is planned as the 'behind the glass' area, I'm sure Grimmys could be put behind the home terrace with a bar built into the stands concourse?? Eh eh??
