Stanley dream team - your thoughts please
Hello all
I just came up with an idea for something in the programme and wondered what you all thought of it...
It's a very simple concept - fans pick their Stanley dream XI of players they've seen in the red shirt and give a few reasons why. Just to provoke a debate and get other fans talking really.
This would be very easy to do - just an email to a pre-set address with the players, reasons and formations, name and picture of the "manager" i.e. you!
It could even be started on here with a few selected to go in the programme to kick us off.
Thoughts (and your dream teams if at all possible!) please...
Dan

Re: Stanley dream team - your thoughts please
The team that finished on Saturday would do for me, with Bobby Grant making up the eleven.

Going well so far! I'll let the thread run for a bit and then PM a few of you to get more details etc if that's okay...

Re: Stanley dream team - your thoughts please
Rob Elliot
I always find it difficult to decide between him and the flying Scot, but Rob was the best one out of the million-and-one 'keepers in the Conference winning season so he gets it this time.
*
Peter Cavanagh
The most successful captain in Accrington Stanley's history. Fast, committed full-back. Awesome set-piece taker. Blighted by injury but never held back when he got back on the field.
Phil Edwards
"If Phil was 6ft 3in he'd be playing in the Premier League!". We've heard it a hundred times before but it's true. The best footballing brain in the current team.
Jonathan Smith
Smithy's invaluable place in our rise through the non-league pyramid has become something of legend; "he could head a ball fifty yards put couldn't pass it six!". Smithy was 100% committed in his game and always had a word for the fans. A retro Kempo.
Leam Richardson
It's such a shame injury has held Leam back for so long. A quick, strong defender who isn't afraid to get forward. The Roberto Carlos to Cav's Cafu.
*
Russ Payne
Incredibly skilful and comfortable on the ball for a non-league player. Bloody nice fella, too. The best thing about Russ is he never knew how good he was.
Simon Carden
Vastly underrated player in my opinion. Talented player with bags of goals in him. His hat-trick against Burscough is one of my most prominent Stanley memories.
Mike Marsh
In my opinion, the main reason why we won the Unibond.
Andrew Procter
Proccy's gone from "headless chicken" to "Gerrard-esque" in the ten(ish) years he's been here at Stanley. Has come on leaps and bounds since taking the captain's armband.
Gary Roberts
Scared the bejesus out of all who went up against him with skill, pace and a wicked left foot. Just beats Prendergast as Gary could play up front just as well as on the wing. His goal against Torquay was akin to Gazza vs. Scotland in '96.
*
Paul Mullin
Legend.
Subs:
K.Arthur, D.Kempson, R.Hollis, P.Burns, I.Craney, R.Prendergast, L.James
