Re: Stanley steward today
Possible or potential! Said my piece, put whatever concocted excuses you want to, doesn't change the shame brought on the club by people old enough to realise the consquenses of their own actions. Thats my main point. I am out of this one its getting stupid! Suggest you ignore any more postings too Phil, they'll only twist everything as already shown!

Re: Stanley steward today
big al I am not arguing the rights and wrongs of what we did. I am arguing the wrongs of what you did. If you paid to go in. how did the dale stewards know you are a steward. Because you put yourself forward. You wanted to feel important. This was not for the safety of the fans as they where not in danger.
Most would not have been thrown out of it wasn't for you. You wanted to feel important. Your job as a Steward has gone to your head. At the end of the day you where a paying fan like the rest of us. You didn't have to point out who you decided where ring leaders. You just wanted to do it. Shame on you for using us like that. Shame on you not us.

Re: Stanley steward today
I thought attendances were down. Now we have a steward of the club telling us to stay away.

Re: Stanley steward today
Out of the away games I have been to this season, next year I will not be going to Bury, Rochdale, Grimsby, Notts County, Mansfield or Stockport.
Only two sets of stewards out of those made any kind of bother about the standing, the rest were fine. No fan of ASFC should WANT to bring shame and reputation to our club - least of all me.
I go to the football mainly for the atmosphere, which just isn't the same when you HAVE to sit. So I will not bring any more shame to my club and will avoid those grounds in future.

This could explain a lot. I, perhaps mistakenly, was under the impression that people went to football matches mainly to watch the football. Just shows how wrong you can be.

Re: Stanley steward today
even a lot of non football fans can't fail to feel the buzz and excitement of being part of large or loud following of fans.
Anfield is perhaps one of the biggest examples but there is absolutely nothing like the spectacle of 40000 people singing You'll never walk alone and giving it everything they have, with their chests pumped up and their fists defiantly punching the air at the end of every sentence. Goose bump tackle.
For me it is like that when 10 of us manage to outsing the home support when we go away. Many a time I can remember little of the match itself as I want to sing and chant throughout and try my best to inspire the lads to victory. Its about I come from 'Accrington and this is what we have'. Maybe its tribal, maybe its tragic, god knows what it is. The football is the fulcrum and gives leverage to whatever we do on the terraces. And no, that never ever involves aggro before any of you dare to suggest it.
"I am from Accrington, you are from Barrow, Frickley, Barcelona or Rio bloody Janeiro, I dont care. I am louder and prouder and these boys in Red are what inspire me."
etc
You tell I am wrong and you are a fool. We all watch football for whatever reason, that is mine and that is why I dont watch Burnley or Rovers. Because I couldn't feel that way about any other town.

Re: Stanley steward today
‘Standing accommodation is not intrinsically unsafe’ -Lord Justice Taylor 1989
People are allowed to stand at rock concerts in football grounds. If this is safe why is it not for football supporters?
Just a couple of quotes from http://www.standupsitdown.co.uk/
OK, this thread could go on forever, but I think the main grievance from the fans is that no clear communication was made to those standing of being ejected. I was sat just in front of the Ultras and certainly heard nothing, to be hi-jacked at half time is fairly poor behaviour and very snide IMO. Like Macca said, there are some grounds I will not go back to next season, mainly due to the behaviour of the stewards.
I've even considered not going to the Crown because of some of the charmless souls the club employs
If people feel strongly join the ongoing protest, (link above), or sign the petition or both. Don't moan, organise! I think I've suggested a mass boycott of the ground which has the worst stewarding earlier in the season. That could cost Rochdale, for instance, £15,000.
The debate is also going on in Parliament about re-introducing standing areas, obviously don't hold your breath.
In the meanwhile we'll have to use our nouse, and look out for each other.

The mind boggles! At last we are getting to the heart of this debate. Conkers are banned in schools, no playing in the yard when it snows, firemen (sorry, firefighters) are not allowed to rescue cats from trees, refs abandon games when puddles appear on the pitch, etc., etc., etc.
Where will it all end?

I do a lot of driving and hate some of the speed limts we have. However if I see a speed camera in a 30mph zone I don't go driving past it at 50mph shouting "I don't agree with your poxy law". I know the penalty regardless of wether I agree with it or not.
The same applies if you are entering a football ground, if the rules say you have to sit then why do people think they can totally ignore it and then complain when action is taken them ?

plus driving over 30 miles an hour kills people standing at the back of a seated stand doesnt

And all these ideas have been thought up by a jobsworth who in his time off from being a prat maybe does a bit of stewarding at his local footy club.
