Having looked again at the video clip several times, courtesy Redash, it confirms my initial reaction that, despite the conditions, Ian could, and should, have been able to lift the ball sufficiently to clear the oncoming attacker.When he received the ball, the attacker must have been at least ten/fifteen yards away. Just look at how Toddy managed to lift his kick from a static position, albeit the penalty spot. Who was under most pressure??
OK, the backpass should not have been made, but the ball still got to him in time to do something positive with it.
Hey Ho, we all make mistakes.... let's just be thankful that this one doesn't count!!!! If you make a mistake in your job, wouldn't you just love it if you could go back in time, which is effectively what we are doing, come the rearranged game!!
And, we may have a full squad, plus January additions!!
