Stanley v Shrimpers

Hi, I'm a Shrimpers fan and looking forward to the game on Saturday and hoping for an enjoyable season. We've signed 4 players in the past 24 hours and suddenly our small squad is taking shape. We expect to bring about 200+ fans on Saturday and it will be good to come back to Accrington. The beer is good and for us, cheap. What are your thoughts for Saturday and the season ahead?

Re: Stanley v Shrimpers

Hope you have a safe, if pointless journey. This time of the year finds most Stanley fans at their most optimistic. It was the same twelve months ago! One reason for the heightened optimism this year is that, amazingly, most of the squad is the same as last year's.
Southend look like many folks pick for a top 7 finish, so it should be a good game.

Re: Stanley v Shrimpers

Thanks, may the best team on the day win. Leagues 1 & 2 are where the real traditional 'English (and Welsh)' football is played and you can keep the Premier L. It's good to chat with home fans in the pub. Don't have a clue who will be up top come May. So many changes with Northampton signing many players, Luton and Cambridge coming up. Could be any four from about 10. Like you we are hopeful but after many recent disappointing years, realistic as we have no cash. All the best, let's hope the sun is shining Saturday.

Expecting a good close game, we seem to be stronger than recent seasons,if friendlies are owt to go off, not always true that though.

Is Phil Brown under pressure to get you promoted this season?

Re: Stanley v Shrimpers

Probably, especially as we came close last year. We've kept most of the squad and brought in what we hope are improvements on those that have left so should be an interesting season. I only say 'interesting' as probably 23 other teams' fans are as hopeful as us. With this league, you can be at the top one season and near the bottom the next and vice versa.
