Stanleys dilapidated ground
page 13 Accy Observer:
Accrington Peel Ward councillor, Graham Jones, has called for Accrington Stanleys gound to be moved to an alternative location.
He said: "with Stanleys success, we need to think about the future. I think they need to start looking for a new stadium; otherwise next season we are going to be faced with a dilapidated stadium in an unsuitable area, which is densely populated with inadequate parking and larger crowds are going to make the problem worse, With a borough the size of Hyndburn we could look at a community stadium. I am hoping the council will take on the issue as it needs to be looked at."
They should have thought about that in 1968 when they offered us the boggy marshland nowhere near the town centre. Has this idiot been to the ground recently. Small it is, crap floodlights it has, muddy car parks it has, no roof it hasn't (thanks for the mention in yesterdays LET Mullers), but dilapidated it is not. He also seems to think that we could solve our relocation before next season. Its not like moving house moron. We do not need to move. The ground is fine, the re-development will look well.
Maybe we should look at electing a new council. They will build us a new road taking us to the other side of the ground where we can use the new car park that they will build us.

Re: Stanleys dilapidated ground
Don't you just love it, politics? Maybe he might want to assist the planning department to find which arse hole it’s finger's stuck up and get the current planning application passed so that the club can resolve some of those issues.
I did ask a number of questions relating to some of these issues back in January this year, the club promise or at least expected that they could answer them subject to the finalisation of current planning applications.
I would suppose that the Interlink with some adjustment in capacity and amenities will serve us all well for the next 3-5 years, but come the championship league we will almost certainly need a larger capacity ground and the amenities to go with it, the time to start planning for that may well be now, but for all our sakes do that in the background and let the town rejoice in its Football Clubs success.

Re: Stanleys dilapidated ground
i have often, in my lottery winning and spending daydreams, wondered exactly where a new ground could be built. It would need to be near the town centre, on a large estate where car parking could be facilitated, and close to an arterial road.
Eastgate Retail Park has fallen on hard times hasn't it, c'mon Mr Jones take up the issue.
oh yeah, and I'm being sarcastic.

Re: Stanleys dilapidated ground
Bravo me old china!
The words already expressed are streight from the atrium!!
The wagon's rolling on an we're all on on it.
I personnaly don't think the council/local MP or any local dignatries expecet us to achieve what what we have...
Now is the the time for an emergancy meeting to deal with the issues of security,parking....
And let's have it streight...Revenue for the Club, local businesses and Bourough.
Every one's a winner if it's propperly delt with..(cough! Briritcliffe/HBC)

Re: Stanleys dilapidated ground
God - it seems we are all trying to run before we can walk. We are NOT in league 2 yet! Yes I know the promised land is nearly there, but we can still be caught. It has already been said that the current stadium will prove ok whilst in the early years back in league football even up to league one standard, however, unless we have a Dave Whelan to bankroll a new ground holding upwards of 25,000 (which last time I looked we hadn't and no one is going to throw 50 million at us so forget the lottery dreams) then we will have to wait a little while. Success breeds success, so if we continue in the same vein (whichever league we are in next year) then the crowds will increase. But all this clap trap about parking etc, the IES has already had crowds of 4,000 plus in the past and 3,000 plus this season, so from a personal point of view - although traffic after the match is a bind, patience will eventually see you away within 15 minutes usually. My personal opinion is that a stand is needed on the Whinney Hill side (planning permission already approved I believe and funding in place as well) plus roofs over both ends of the pitch.. We also need to concentrate on the building that is required for league entrance (ie police control box and first aid room etc). Speak to your councillors by all means, but the club will have to fund the rebuild with grants from the F.A. not the council tax of the people of Hyndburn

Re: Stanleys dilapidated ground
Has this character ever attended a match at the IES? I've certainly never seen him on the Clayton End. Has he ever posted on the Stanley forum? In fact, has he ever shown any interest in the club at all?
Naked political opportunism at its most blatant!

Re: Stanleys dilapidated ground
Of course every bit of support is welcome, but like other people have mentioned, strange how people are jumping on the band wagon, and sticking their two penn'oth in as the local elections loom.

Re: Stanleys dilapidated ground
What's the betting that Greg Pope tries jumping on the bandwagon before long?

I've seen him at a couple of games already. To give him his due one of the times was at the begining of the season.
