Re: Still TOP of the League and 'aving a larf
I thought the way Halifax fought and closed down was excellent and it stopped us from playing our game. Halifax also got players behind the ball, which always makes it hard for use to create chances (Worcester in the F.A Cup springs the mind).
Having said that, Stanley never gave up and fully deserved the equaliser via a cast iron penalty.
Now it's on to a resurgent Canvey Island and that is going to be another very, very hard game.

Not really correct. I was on the Whinney Hill side and a large number of people around me applauded the walkers when the announcer had finished talking to you.

Re: Still TOP of the League and 'aving a larf
I'm not normally Cav's greatest fan, but I thought today he had a massive impact on the game in the short time he was on the field, apart from scoring the penalty, obviously. That wasn't so easy, either, considering the long, nerve-shattering delay for shenanigins from Halifax. He galvanised us from the back, driving forward to pile on the pressure which ultimately produced the penalty (2 of which we should have had in the first half anyway). He showed how to nullify the threat from Rory too, not giving him an inch on the ball and snuffing him out of the game.
Inspirational stuff, Cav, good on yer!

Re: Still TOP of the League and 'aving a larf
id have to agree with Redraine, i thought Cav was excellent when he came on, he made such a difference to the side.
Surely hes got to be in the starting eleven as i believe Williams is woefully out of his depth at this level.
All in all bit of a disappointing performance from stanley but Halifax did play well.
Surely there was far more than 3,000 on??
easily 3,500!

Re: Still TOP of the League and 'aving a larf
Thought we were well off the game today, as we were at the Shay but if all others are dropping points whilst we are going through our 'sticky' patch then who knows what may happen. The next 10 games are going to decide the final outcome of our season. The team will knit together again, they are only human!
Mangy for the No 10 shirt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Still TOP of the League and 'aving a larf
I'm impressed that so many posters who were at the game are being so honest about how it all went.
I detect a cautious "Blimey , how did we get a point out of that ", rather than the anticipated (and almost reasonable) "We wuz robbed by those blind liners and their optician-with-a-whistle".
As with our Boxing Day game I'm full of praise for both sides , and I see a glass which is distinctly half-full rather than half-empty.
When I look at all the positives today - Grays losing, Exeter losing, Morecambe being held goalless by Southport - I have to go along with the consensus that someone is watching over us this season. Intelligent Design ?
But for me , the greatest pleasure today was meeting a couple of people whom I'd only previously known by their pseudonyms.
Step forward please, Wynonie Harris and Doug. As nice in the flesh as they are on the forum !

Re: Still TOP of the League and 'aving a larf
I`ve got to agree that Halifax were the better side today. They bossed the midfield while we lost the ball too easily and our goalscoring attempts were woeful, however their goal was one of the softest i`ve seen. I thought I heard a whistle just before they shot, so maybe thats why our defence were flatfooted. Still if we get over our usual post Christmas wobble while all our rivals are shedding points like confetti then I`ll be a happy bunny

Re: Still TOP of the League and 'aving a larf
Poor game, but a points a point against what was a better team!
What was dissappointing was a single butty van and no additional loos, perhaps the "powers at be" could have been a little more accommodating to the "new fans" and also the regulars!

Cheers Mr Morton, I’m very grateful for your assistance with the membership and the welcome that you give me, I look forward to seeing you at the next match and maybe meeting a few more people.
It was nice to see people again today, and to meet new people. One problem I did find was the number of faces the seem to jump out of the crowd that I knew from the past, I found myself on more than one occasion nodding at people after recognising a face for the past. I have little doubt that they all thought who the hell was that idiot? lol.
I’ll be there again on the 21st. Irrespective of today’s score it was an excellent day’s entertainment, sore throat an all.

With all the quarries around Accrington</ST1 a few tons of stone chippings wouldn’t go a miss either; most of it should go down round the back of the Clayton End. There’s got to be loads of the stuff around that could be donated to the Ground

Re: Still TOP of the League and 'aving a larf
Nearly didn't make today's match due to a horrendous cold but stanley worked a miracle in almost clearing it!!!
Shame about the final score line but I have to say on the day we were the slightly poorer side. I was happy for a point but did stand there with everything crossed hoping for a last min blast by roberts again!!!
Fab to see such a big crowd and well done to all the halifax fans, especially the ones that walked it!! But 3014 is someone having a laugh, most areas had a certain squashed sardines feel about them!!
Great to finally meet the infamous wynonie and Doug. Was also pleased to see so many other accywebbers there, long may you continue to join us

Re: Still TOP of the League and 'aving a larf
I have no understanding of football other than ball goes in net (hopefully!) so can't comment on game itself, but would just like to say it was the first Accy game I have been to, and really enjoyed the whole experience. Great atmosphere, loads of familiar faces, a real good afternoon out, and I'll definitely be going again!

2 Draws on the bounce and the "rocky haters" are back.
would like to see browny get the nod on saturday instead of jags at canvey as i think jags hasnt been preforming as good as he can do recently and browny played well when he came on.
fantastic crowd today even though there was more than stated, but where did the other 1000 people appear from??? surely they cudnt all have been rovers and burnley fans???
hopefully we are on to a winner and build upon our fanbase and nice to see some accywebbers there Eg Doug and co and ever better to hear you will be coming again
