Substitutes
As Accybeme says in the Burton thread -
"I agree with others on the subs, fresh legs for the last 20 mins must give us fresh impetus, but these decisions are for the manager to make and as far as I'm concerned J. B. has taken us from an almost impossible position to one with a chance of survival yet again"
However, my 5 minutes of research (sad, I know) shows that of the 22 L2 teams in action yesterday, 15 used 3 subs, 5 used 2 and only us and Rochdale only used one, and they were 3 goals up early on. JB deserves enormous credit for dragging us back into the mix for mid table or even playoff-challenging security but even he must acknowledge that the major part of our recent successful run owed quite a lot to desperate last gasp efforts and a decent portion of good fortune. Now fortune seems to have deserted us with a number of crucial poor decisions by match officials, according to James. I would argue that the narrowness of the margins in nearly all our games this season would suggest that JB maybe needs to re-asses his "no sub" approach, especially as Cashy and others have commented that he continually bigs up the quality and spirit in his squad, if he really means it. Sure, it is good for morale that he does so, but nobody could blame him if he is just disguising the perception that our squad is lacking as compared to most of our rivals. Not that he can really be blamed for that, for reasons we all know.
Chesterfield play tomorrow night, so that gives us even more incentive to make use of subs on Saturday if we find ourselves going behind with plenty of time left? God forbid!
