Team vs Chesterfield, ring the changes!

So if you were Coley, how would you change the system or personel for tuesday night?

Id like to see something like this:

Bavs

Bateson Phil ? Winnard

Proccy

Joyce Ryan Putterill

Gornell Lindfield

This accomodates our best midfielders in positions where they can be effective. I've gone for Luke Joyce over Charlie Barnett in there because I think Luke deserves a few games and is capable of doing a job both offensively and defensively, and because Charlie appears to have gone off the boil somewhat!
The striking pair is more for height than anything else, Terry may well benefit from being able to face goal a bit more often if Craig plays for an extended period with him.
I know this makes us slightly narrower than perhaps I would like but it puts Jimmy (who is carrying an injury by the way) in his most effective position and allows the ball to be played thorugh on the deck more, whilst giving the option to hoof to Craig and Terry if needed.
I just don't know who my second CB would be!!

Re: Team vs Chesterfield, ring the changes!

Don't know about players or systems, just look at the stats ....

First 7 games: P7 W2 D5 L0 GF 7 GA 1 Pts 11

Next 7 games: P7 W1 D2 L4 GF 14 GA 19 Pts 5

8 goals against 33! As the unbiased spectator I know which I'd prefer to watch - but as a Stanley fan, a 0-0 against Chesterfield will do just fine, let's find that drawbridge and put it up again.

Since getting back to the league, we've always had a 6/7 game slump at some point in the first half of the season (apart from last season when it waited till Christmas and went on for twice as long), we need to get out of this one quickstix. After Chesterfield, only Shrewsbury in what's left of the first half of the season have done dramatically better than us so far ....

Here's hoping

Re: Team vs Chesterfield, ring the changes!

To take Cisak straight back out again would be very harsh, but he did the same with Bouza last year after only 1 mistake away at Northampton.

For me now that we have full squad to choose from, I would go back to the team that started the season, its a big ask, especially for Putterill who has we all know has hardly played any games since the end of August.

Coley is the manager of course and in him we trust but for me, starting XI would be.

Dunbavin
Bateson
Edwards
Hessey
Winnard
Proccy
Barnett
Ryan
Mcconville
Putterill
Gornell

Subs
Lindfield
Turner
Long
Parkinson
Joyce
Richardson
Cisak

Re: Team vs Chesterfield, ring the changes!

The only real changes I hope to see are Winnard moving over to the left and Hess being moved back to centre-half. Hessey's full-back display against Cheltenham was reminiscent of Graham Branch's short spell with us. (Well, maybe not that bad. ) Aimless punt after aimless punt.

Seems pretty much certain that Procter and Putterill will go straight back into the starting eleven, as will Dunbavin, probably. Still not sure about Bateson. Perhaps Coley will 'do a Tom Lees' with Smyth and move him out to full-back where he's less exposed. He may even stick Joyce on the right as he has done before.

Dunbavin
Smyth Edwards Hessey Winnard
Barnett Procter
McConville Ryan Putterill
Gornell

Re: Team vs Chesterfield, ring the changes!

Leam in at left back and Winnard surely deserves to have a go at centre back and bavs back in goal.

Putterill owes us now and has to show us what if can do. He'll play in the middle alongside Ryan and Parkinson with Proctor and Joyce breaking the play behind them.

That leaves room for only one up top and that will be Gornell.

Personally i'd like to revert to 4 4 2 but away to the top of the league might be too early. It could also be our best tactic at the moment - just in at them hard and try to outscore them

Give Lindfield a game, he deserves a start.

4 4 2 and put Bateson or Long back in. Feel Smyth needs more experience at the mo.
Dont know if Putterill should go straight back in myself.

Re: Team vs Chesterfield, ring the changes!

I woulg go 4 4 2

Dunbavin
Bateson Edwards Hessey Winnard
Turner Procter Ryan McConville
Putterill Gornell

The main tactic for me would be to get the two wingers attacking full backs, getting to the goal line and pulling the ball back for Gornell and the others to run on to. It is obvious that we lack height and strength up front but Gornell, Putterill and Ryan, Procter etc I think that we have ability to score in this system.

Re: Team vs Chesterfield, ring the changes!

good defence teams have a good spine to the team, good keeper who will come for balls, two centre backs , one who is commanding in the air,one who is quick and reads the game and an holding midfielder who reads the game and stops balls to the opposions forwards feet.
Put names to positions

Re: Team vs Chesterfield, ring the changes!

our bunch observed young Smyth second half, from clayton end, the lad on numerous times was marking a cheltenham forward from a corner kick, every time as the kick was taken he moved AWAY from the man. on one occasion he even moved outa the penalty area. leaving the forwards in space, luckily nothing came from those corners, if better directed Cheltenham coulda declared. as i said before, hes a kid n needs more experience.

Re: Team vs Chesterfield, ring the changes!

Disagree with changing to 4-4-2 for one main reason. Procter is captain and so will play every important competitive game that he's available for. He hasn't the discipline to maintain a traditional central midfield position in the midfield four. His position in front of the defence in the 4-2-3-1 suits him much better. Should we revert to 4-4-2, we'll see great big holes in the centre of the park, little to no protection for our shaky defence, and our forwards out-jumped for crosses, in my opinion.
