But today's website is interesting !!.....

"ILYAS Khan is scheduled to confirm his resignation as Accrington Stanley chairman at a board meeting after Saturday’s home game against Macclesfield – but managing director Dave O’Neill is unsure how the meeting will pan out.
Khan said last month that he would step down as chairman at the next board meeting but O’Neill, currently in charge of day-to-day affairs and the most likely man to become chairman, was cautious when asked to predict the likely outcome of the gathering.
Khan is understood to still have concerns about elements of the agreement for O’Neill to finally take over the club from Eric Whalley, which had been held up pending clarification of loans owed to Whalley. That clarification came closer with the finalisation of the club’s 2008/09 accounts last month.
“There is a lot going on in the background,” said O’Neill.
“Ilyas did say he was going to stand down. We had no contact with him over the summer but we have now got contact.
“I don't know what will happen at the meeting.
“The takeover from Eric is coupled with the accounts, but Ilyas is not happy with one or two issues.”

Anyone care to hazard a guess ??

No - but I'd love to be a fly on the wall at that meeting

Re: Telegraph

Assuming that on this occaision the LT has correctly reported Mr O'Neil's words - quote “The takeover from Eric is coupled with the accounts, but Ilyas is not happy with one or two issues.” - then I can only guess that this is Mr O'Neils usual understatement (to be diplomatic) of the true state of affairs.

I quote again, this time from what is surely an exasperated Expatriate's thread on community ownership:

“I do hope that the current management of the club in the form of Mr Heys and Mr O'Neil…” (Post #1)

“i think we ought to really go for it, but in a systematic and clear sighted way. putting ownership and governance to one side, and then hiring decent day to day management is the key in my view…”(Post#14)

The key words are highlighted in red. It should not be to difficult to reach a conclusion as to what the "one or two issues" are to be discussed at the meeting. One suspects a full and frank exchange of opinion, plus a few other things.

Probably something to do with the supposed "loans" that EW made to the Club. If Ilyas hadn't have stepped in last year, the Club would have folded and EW would not have got a penny. He is now probably wanting re-payment of these "loans". If he does then it's goodbye to the TV money from the Newcastle game

Re: Telegraph

i find the telegraph article odd. I will not comment on the editor or writer, as my opinion of that newspaper are very clear when it comes to ASFC. However i will comment on the factual statement they attribute to Oneil about contact over summer. I just checked my laptop and there are over 20 emails between Mr ONeil and myself from july 1st till now, and probably double that if one counts correspondence with Rob Heys and other members of the club. The suggestion that there has been no contact is not only misleading, but factually incorrect.

There is a board meeting on Saturday, and its one that ought to have been held a couple of weeks ago. The agenda for that meeting is something that Mr O'Neil has put together and I have agreed. Peter Marsden will also attend, and I can ensure that any decisions that are taken will be clearly communicated.

However I will also say that the game against Newcastle is the core and key priority right now for everyone at the club, and board meeting or no board meeting, I would like to take this opportunity of thanking you all in advance for the brilliant and awe inspiring way you and all fans are getting behind the team.

Re: Telegraph

Just a quickie Ilyas...would I be right in saying that a board meeting would have been neccessary to approve the '09 accounts prior to submission (yeah, I know...it's the 2010 A/Cs that are important).

Re: Telegraph

its a technicality, but the accounts needed to be signed off by a director, and that signing given its importance, could only be done with board awareness (normally a board meeting). in this case all members of the board were involved, but i was particularly involved in a detailed discussion and review with the independent auditors. As you are aware Pierce work for the company, not for the directors, and their purview was the focus of my calls. David O Neil signed the accounts once we had agreed the verbiage, but I think my previous bulletin board comments also noted that the 09/10 accounts will be the key statement.

Just one other point about the telegraph piece - I really dont know if Mr Oneil actually said that, or whether he was quoted out of context. I have not been in Accy since mid JUly, and the board meeting that was scheduled for that time was cancelled due to the untimely death of my aunt (the lady who lived in Stanhill Hall). IT would therefore be correct that I have not actually been at the ground since mid July (i went up to buy a top but did not run into Mr Oneil or Rob), and that is perhaps what was meant by the comment. Either way, its not just a mere detail and hence my desire to correct the impression.
