Re: The belated Gillingham match thread
What a match! Have to disagree with Shaker on Micah, who I thought was dangerous throughout and was only denied a fantastic goal by their 6'8" substitute goalie at the death. I also thought he put in a good defensive shift too. Some great Stanley performances today with Smith the pick, not just for his goals but also his all-round game. Murphy gave his best performance in a Stanley shirt - just keep him away from the full back position, Leam! Could easily have been 7-1 at half time but the Gills murdered us in the second. We really need to work on our defensive possession play when under pressure, but can't fault the commitment with every player putting his body on the line for the team. Enthralling stuff, with the Clayton End willing the lads to victory with a non stop rendition of "Leam and Phil's red and white army" for the last 15 minutes, but I didn't hear the main stand joining in. No doubt someone will correct me if my ears let me down.

Re: The belated Gillingham match thread
Well done for today's result, it sounds like it was a great game. There were even a few cheers went up at Spotland when we heard you were winning at half time. As you will have heard, a small miracle happened at Spotland this afternoon. It was like watching a different team. JC certainly has a magic touch - we were on fire and it couldn't have been better than against our biggest rivals!

Re: The belated Gillingham match thread
Agree with Shaker on this one !!,wheither it was our game plan to leave the runners, win the ball and attack that space left,I just dont know, but in the first half it worked
They was olways going to throw the kitchen sink at us in the second-half,and they didnt disapoint.
Thought we defended really well, but Bavs head just went, which created even more pressure. He will be disappointed with all three goals.
Finally, young Smiths display,I have watched numerous young players in the past,Carroll, sturidge, wellbeck,to name a few and he shown me enough today,to mention him in the same breath at his age.
He will only get better, and maybe key to any success we have this season.----well done young man

Re: The belated Gillingham match thread
Wow what a game!! Great entertainment and thats exactly what i pay my yearly season ticket book for! Don't get me wrong we should never be holding on at the end with a commanding 4-1 lead at half time and i think i have bitten all my finger nails off! well done to everyone connected at accrington and lets push on! Automatic??

Re: The belated Gillingham match thread
Another thing i don't get is the Murdoch situation?? We have our best Goalkeeper sitting twidling his thumbs on the bench but if we keep on winning and moving up that darm league then i will be a happy man!

Danny Coid was fantastic for us at full back with little or no protection from Micah Evans throughout the game. Leam ought to teach Evans 'tracking back for dummies' soon as the lad only looks interested when on the ball, which is only one part of the game. I hope Craig Lindfield's injury clears up quickly so he can return to the fold.
Contrast that with the brilliant Michael Smith who was still galloping around on 90+4 minutes. Smith not only bagged a hat trick and an assist but also blocked a shot which looked certain to go in. His movement, technical ability and awareness impresses me and he seems to be a calm figure which is why goals will come easily for him. He could go far.
Peter Murphy gave a great performance in central midfield alongside the puppet-master Bryan Hughes, bombing forward and adding a lot to our play in the final third. Well done Pete. Luke Joyce was Luke Joyce. Mr Dependable; always there to sweep up, break up and link up the play.
I felt that at times Dean Winnard had to do the job of two centre halves today as Toto looked out of his depth and made mistakes during the most basic of tasks. I'll be a lot happier when Sean Hessey returns. Kevin McIntyre battled fantastically.
Padraig was tireless again and even picked up a bloody nose for his efforts. He deserved a goal but that will come I'm sure.
Ian Dunbavin got the Gills back into the game and he will know that he could've cost us the points today. There was nothing he could've done about the spectacular Gills equaliser to make it 1-1 but the following two were fatal mistakes.
Some heavy work on defensive organisation is needed but with our forward play the way it is, we can beat anyone in this league.
Let's do this.
Well done Leam, Phil and Bryan. A memorable managerial debut!

Aye cant argue with that analysis ^ Bavs i was annoyed with why do he insist of being well of his goal line
Well done & excellent managerial work by our trio, as me & Dan was trying to work out how to get them in a shortened name for em, got one now, seems its royalty HRH [Hackney-Richardson-Hughes]

Totally agree. After today's performance, I would sincerely hope that Murdoch is back in the team next week!

Re: The belated Gillingham match thread
Not often the club get praised for speed of information on the fishy site but credit where it's due, they have been very quick in getting a thank you message on the site for all those who helped get the game on.
Those who helped will feel their efforts were worthwhile with the result but just as importantly their efforts have been publicly noted
