Re: The Gills (Away) Thread
The Gills had a much more cultured style of play, less physical than either Newport or Bradford. They played football with good link up play. They were direct and could always find a man with their passes. Think we are still work in progress with some wayward passing. We are very predictable with Josh Andrews up front but he does so well whilst constantly under attack from defenders. I don't think we are getting the best out of Tommy Leigh and today Nolan in particular didn't get close enough to Andrews. In defence we did pretty well against the Gills front line who will cause problems for many side in this League. We just didn't create enough chances and maybe were a bit unlucky with how the ball fell (or didn't fall) to our players. Didn't notice any new injuries today, let's hope that was the case.

To be honest Andy, we were the better side.....
Their goal came from nothing and first goal is key at this level

Their goal came from nothing and first goal is key at this level :
Not what Mr Coleman thinks he said we were awful and deserved nothing from the game, struggling to defend the long ball game he knew Gillingham would play and woeful in our own attacking game their keeper hadn't a save to make.

Coley seemed in a foul mood in his interview, he said himself it's hard when it's straight after the game. He was definitely rattled by how the new refereeing rules seemed to have changed already withou5 any notification that they had

Re: The Gills (Away) Thread
We are not going to see miracles here overnight with new players joining us, especially the younger ones who have never before played league football. It must be a real shock to these young lads getting hoofed all over the field by some of these heavyweight thugs we are seeing from the likes of the Bradfords. Hopefully we should see the team gel a bit more in the next 3 or 4 weeks. Onwards and upwards.

Agree entirely with this. Leigh was consistently bypassed as we targeted Josh. Have no problem with Andrews as the target man, he's a big and mobile lad who can hold his own. But if the aim was for Tommy to link with Josh, and with both Jack and Sean on the wings, it just didn't work, we were rarely a threat on the Gillingham goal. It seemed a waste of Tommy's attributes. That said, Josh is a significant upgrade on Pressley and I'm sure he will play a big role in the months ahead. Also a mention for Brad Hills, a class act in the centre of defence, he has a bright future in the game. As others have said, we are working things out at the moment. Talking to Gills fans after the game, they thought we were a big, handy and spirited side who would be okay. Let's hope they are right.

Re: The Gills (Away) Thread
What Is Tommy Leigh best position ? Anyone no ? Been poor in the 3 games he’s played so far in my opinion. Overrated

Re: The Gills (Away) Thread
Not overrated pidge, just keeps being played out of position - last season up front as an example

He wasn’t so poor that he couldn’t lay on the pass for Nolan to score against Newport!

Re: The Gills (Away) Thread
Everyone's talking about individual players abilities, or lack of, concerning results.
Far more relevant is our overall gameplan & formation, which appears little changed from last season's failure.
Perhaps it's time for JC to take a long hard look at his own tactics & get back to simple basics.
Attack, Attack, Attack!

Sorry - but that is nonsense.
2nd class citizens in my humble opinion.
