But this is a team with very little punch. I think a case could be made for a proper forward alongside Pressley leaving Sean Whalley to do what he does best, play wide.

Woods and Adekoya could do that job, but I would prefer to see an experienced striker brought in

In young Adekoya we have a gem on our hands he has a natural striker,s instincts something you can't teach play him he could save the club a fortune and if he progress,s like I think he will make us one as well.

Re: The Wars of the Roses Thread
can someone tell me WHY our manager does NOT put subs on until after the last few mins of ANY game.?unless a lad gets injured? its completely beyond my comprension the lads played very well today against a premiership side,i fail to see what their is to lose.

Re: The Wars of the Roses Thread
Result apart i really enjoyed todays game and have no complaints about our performance. We were the better team upto their first goal and what a goal it was. I just hope we can push on with the same performances in the league so we can get away from the dreaded relegation zone.

Re: The Wars of the Roses Thread
Well it was a grand day out at The Wham Stadium today.
A magnificent RED DISPLAY as the players came out with the big RED SURFER and lots of Stanley flags flying high.
Leeds eventually showed their class with two goals in two minutes but for sixty odd minutes Stanley were deservedly still in with a shout!
Stanley started well in the first twenty minutes and I think we surprised Leeds with our quality and intensity. It was a truly quality strike for the first Leeds goal. Stanley stuck the task well for the rest of the half with Toby Savin making a world class finger tip save to keep the score line at 1-0 at half time.
We continued to hang into the match but two more quality strikes saw us go three down.
It was good to see all our subs being given the chance to pit themselves against Premier opposition and two first touches produced the goal that Stanley deserved. New loanee Quirk got down the right and crossed for Leslie Adekoya to finish superbly to send the Stanley Faithful into RAPTURES!❤️
The Clayton End were BRILLIANT and both sets of fans behaved well and sang and cheered their respective teams.
The Stanley players should take a lot out of this performance for the forth coming battles in League One. Renewed confidence and belief should really help us in the latter stages of the season.
SO PROUD OF ALL AT STANLEY TODAY.
KEEP THE FAITH.
ON STANLEY ON.

Re: The Wars of the Roses Thread
Well played Stanley, great cup tie, really impressed with the work rate lets keep it up for the rest of the season and we should be safe. Well done to the club all round, oh, and I thought the ref had a good game too.

Re: The Wars of the Roses Thread
Great day out at The Wham, and a good effort by Stanley and their fans.
I just hope, after the impact both Adekoya and Woods made, Coley will now have a bit more faith in his younger strikers in the continued absence to injury of the more ‘experienced’ options.
The subs were far too late to have any effect on this result but both these lads showed what a bit of pace and effort can do.
I can’t help wondering just how different things might have been these last few months, where Stanley, clearly struggling for goals, filled the pitch with midfielders, if these lads had been given more than a few minutes and told to get themselves in the opponent’s box.

Your not on your own exile will be interesting to see how the team selection,s pan out over the coming crucial week,s , Conneely said today he,s hopefully back in a couple of weeks training hopefully some new signings we need players who,s instincts are to get in the box and finish even today against a premiership side that was the main difference to me.

I think Adekoya has earned himself more minutes in the games up to the end of the season. But won't be a regular starter. I hope we tie him into a longer contract. Really impressed with him. I'm sure the scouts will be after him now he's showing how good he is.
We desperately need Conneely and Clark back......assuming Notts and Pressley are fully fit in the next two weeks.
