I think it was because the striker was a good 25 yards from goal and there was another defender tracking back ready to intercept; Webb wasn't fouling in a goal scoring opportunity.

Re: tonights match
What happened to the psychic who hynotised them into winning the conference. Bring him/her back I say.

Re: tonights match
One verdict on the Bradford game:
"But at least the Accrington contingent went home happy. If their side maintain this form, a trip to Wembley in the play-offs is more likely than a slide out of the League. Delighted manager John Coleman reckoned that he had just watched the “most complete performance” any of his sides had produced in nine years with the club. And, oozing pride, he pointed out that “Every single player contributed and we've gone that extra mile.”"
How that resonates after last night's showing!!!

Perhaps the psychic is back - they seemed to be in a trance last night.

Thanks for clarifying that. As I said somebody in the stand would give us a better view. 25 yards out as last man would normally be a red card.

The problem is that in order to break down teams who defend in numbers, you need midfield players who can run with the ball and find penetrating passes. With Craney out/gone, we don't have players like that. Proccy ran his heart out and tried to do it, but he isn't that kind of player. Carden and Brown can't do it either, so you end up with possession, but no penetration. When that happens we resort to plan B, which is to play long balls up the middle, which the big Wrexham defenders ate up easily. Mullin struggled against those big lads and Dsane hardly had a look in.
Wrexham had 10 players behind the ball whenever we had it, so you need to be clever to work your way past them. We don't have it.
Away from home, teams aren't going to play like that. They will come out and play, which gives us more room to play to our strengths. At Bradford on Tuesday we had acres of space for Dsane to exploit, as their backline were pushed up to the halfway line. Last night, Wrexham defended from the edge of their area and packed the rest of their half, up to the halfway line.
We have never been good at breaking down teams who defend in that way, but we always had a chance when we had players like Craney or Roberts who could 'unlock' a packed midfield by running at it. Last night showed that we can't handle that kind of game now.
Wrexham came and did a job. They played in a similar way to how we often play away from home. Defend to the last man, then hit them on the break. All credit to them. They did it very well.
|
Absolutely spot on! To my mind Carden is just a slower, inferior alternative to either Proctor or Harris without either of those 2 player's finishing potential. Why he wasn't substituted with either Boco or Harris at half time is beyond me. Or maybe they weren't both on the bench?

Re: tonights match
well i disagree with you its not over the top last night we had a chance to build on our support we had an extra 200-400 extra supporters they are not going to come back after a gutless spineless game no effort or anything if we are going to play good games we might as well do it at home so people will come and watch .all ive heard today from people who dont usually go but who did last night was ill never go again theyve never seen a team who have never tried like that and theyll take their money elsewhere .last night we had a brilliant atmosphere going if that cant motivate the players what can.people keep saying we will stay up i dont think so opposition managers will just watch a replay of last game and do the same tactics it wont be hard wrexam were bottom of the league if we cant beat them at home its worrying times ahead..

I thought last night's performance demotivated the supporters, Wrexham fans rightly singing, "we can see you sneaking out", as the Clayton end were filing out before the end, never seen that before.
On the attendance, slightly up for this season, but 867 down on last year, (a Tuesday night). Would be interesting to know the away breakdown for both matches. I don't relish Friday night games, neither, it seems, do some of our players.

There was also a certain amount of booing last night as the team went off and that's very unusual for Stanley. There were a lot of "casuals" on and it was the perfect opportunity for the team to impress them and motivate them to come back...they let us down, totally.

I also thought the booing was totally out of order. I'm not having that.
Stanley fans have always been 100% behind the team - even when the team has played half-arsed or individuals have let the rest of the side down.

Re: tonights match
Mine too but only cause I'm working, certainly not going to loose money by not going to work to watch a repeat performance of last night

Totally agree with you, Shakey, I've never jeered them and I never would. But the very fact that there was booing proves what a poor display they put on. And I think Dave's sentiment echoes many casual fans or fans of other local sides who came on last night.

At first I thought you where joking but no smiley. Like Liverpool the other night who where booed for a terrible performance Stanleys gutless attempt to play was worse and some fans show what they thought.

Re: tonights match
Bottom line - you don't boo your own side.
Maybe someone who supports 2 clubs or more can't see that.
