Top Conference Goalie Available

Halifax Town have just sacked their 'keeper Ian Dunbavin , a former Liverpool Junior and now 25 years old.

The reason for his dismissal was drink-driving.

I have no knowledge of Dunbavin's disciplinary record, but I do know that he has kept goal extremely well for the Shaymen - who now must fall back on the arthritic Lee Butler pro tempore.

No doubt our management team are well aware of what's going on, but I personally think that Dunbavin has exactly the combination of youth, experience and confidence which is needed by Stanley at this moment.

Chris Wilder has shown his strong streak of discipline. Let ASFC show its strong streak of desire to win, and sign Dunbavin right away.

Lets face it, he wouldn't be driving to away matches, and i am certain he could get a lift for home matches. But why do we want him? Unless it is for cover for Danny Alcock once Darren Randolph has gone back to Charlton. But why sack him for a drink driving offence unless it is a case of bringing the club into disrepute! Yet Roy Keane gets away with it, or was he just saying what Alex Ferguson was thinking LOL

Re: Top Conference Goalie Available

According to the Halifax Courier, he lives in Sowerby Bridge so a lot would depend on how easy it would be to get from there. But he's a former Liverpool trainee so that might go in his favour...

I hope I don't sound too much like Alan Hansen, but good teams are strong right down the middle. That means starting with a good solid goalkeeper and two strong central defenders. Unfortunately we seem to be lacking in all 3 positions and have been for a number of seasons.

When will the management team tackle the goalkeeper problem? I'm not saying rush out and sign the first 'keeper that becomes available and I have no idea of the situation surrounding Dunbavin, but Dunbavin is a quality player and I'd have thought that Coleman would have at least expressed his interest.

Reading around a bit, though, it seems that Dunbavin has gone to Scarborough already.

I'm pleased that Ian's rehabilitation continues.

It makes a lot of sense for all concerned.

Re: Top Conference Goalie Available

Did you know he was first choice with us at Shrewsbury? He is a fine shot stopper, and to be honest, if he had better coaching, I think he could have really advanced. His private life is open to question. Did you know he is best mates with Steven Gerrard? Gerrard quite often used to come to STFC to watch him play. Gerrard also kindly did the half time draw for us, and signed autographs for the kids. You're a better club than Scarboro, go get him.

jaytee, thanks for that info. I, for one, can say that I did not know about the Shrewsbury connection. Of course, there was always an understandable association with the West Coast, which is why I assumed an awareness by our management team.

Certainly, his friendship with S.G. must be a good thing.

Your input is much appreciated ! Good luck to you in the forthcoming season.

Wink Re: Top Conference Goalie Available

Ian came of age last night with one of the most impressive sequences of crucial saves in an important match that has ever been seen at Livingstone Road.

He's now part of a professional organisation , with wonderful coaching and management , so I'm sure that any character flaws which cropped up at his previous clubs have been addressed and are being ironed out.

You can tell he's enjoying his football, so we should also enjoy his football and his enormous talent for as long as we can.

At this rate Rob Elliot might be having to compete for his place when he returns to us fully fit
