Perhaps the footy they are playing which IS the best since returning to league, AINT being highlighted enough in local media, yeh sure match reports etc, but to me someone from the club needs to highlight the vast improvement of play in the media? worth a shot i reckon.?

Re: Torquay match thread
A very entertaining game, but how we missed Kempson & Lees today..the defence looked stretched at times. Murphy doesn't look up to the challenge at the moment and, with 60 % (o.k. 3 out of the 5 !!) of the back line changed today I suppose we were always going to be a bit suspect at the back...that said...
We looked very good going forward and I'll keep on banging the same drum.....when we play the ball on the deck we play some damn good football that has and will take sides apart...All in all a very good 3 points and win the game in hand and we're looking at catching sides in the play offs !!!
The gates continue to be a problem...Somehow the powers that be will have to come up with some sort of offer that'll get folk coming back, that said I wonder just how many of the larger gates during the Conference winning season were visiting Rovers or Claret fans ???
Tuesday is a massive game...the money involved for winning could just be the difference between lifting the other embargo & potentially strengthening or having to sell Bobby or Symes. If we can keep this side together & strengthen, we could look to try & get to the play offs.
If we have to sell, I only hope we can get the right price, with plenty of clauses pitched in and Coley gets some money to try and replace them more than adequately. I'd hate to see the promise shown in recent weeks and months fade away (ala first season after selling Roberts & Craney) That would only serve to exasperate the attendance problem.
Admittedly, we're always going to have to sell eventually, when we unearth such gems, but it's what we do with the money (if and when it comes) and how we replace such players that will be the acid test so to speak...Hopefully with Illyas' financial acumen & Coley's nouse we can continue the ten year trend....
ONWARDS & UPWARDS !!!!

Re: Torquay match thread
Just seen the goals on sky sports news; bloody well done red men.
Made up for Luke Joyce getting his first goal.
Hope Bobby's not out for too long.

Just a level(drunken) head on things... I'm laughing at how we are talking about play offs its bloody brilliant we were favourites to go down at the start of the season. Best team in red I've seen and would be ecstactic if we finish in the top half this season. Everyone who turned up to the Bradford game deserves it.

Re: Torquay match thread
As many have already said within this thread the football when we play it on the deck is the best we have played since our return to the League, the only time we come unstuck is against physical sides Bournemouth & Dagenham which spring to mind recently where we end up back to route one.
The cup runs are great and are a great revenue stream for the Club as money is straight in either via the turnstile or money for progressing and are more likely particulary the more high profile to either attract larger away following or encourage the neutrals on. The flip side could be focus could drift away from the league particulary if the Arch becomes more visible and the more games with the smaller squad could lead to more injuries suspensions etc.
I think in an adverse way having the embargo may just have helped with having a smaller squad there is less inclination to chop & change things and leads to a squad that knows it strong points and also it's weaker points and probably leads to a more focussed squad.
As for attracting crowds back to the Crown well things like specific groups being targetted, schools could be more focused on with giving away a selection of free tickets to kids so long as they are accompanied by a paying Adult (I know that already exsists with the ASFC Redz scheme) but maybe a focus on each individual school in the borough?
An odd match could be offered up as reduced admission to Season Ticket holders from other Clubs to encourage more walk on's?
More use of the media maybe we burnt our chips there with the SOS Scheme but having seen Rovers "Taking back Ewood" and Burnley's "Dare to Dream" used over the past twelve months and what it has achieved for both Clubs maybe a full on clever marketing campaign could work or just stick with the steady progress that is already being made by the Club?
One thing for sure is how nice is it to look at the League Table on the run up to the New Year thinking we still have a Club and in more way's than one things are definately on the up

Would think that all who donated time and money (that they couldn't really afford in the first place) to the club during its time of need would be equally appreciative. But I suppose it was the intoxication that lead to missing that bit out

Good performance and a win despite best efforts to throw it away at the end - why no Kempson and Lees ? Feel with them on the pitch it would have been 4-0.
Also their number 33 was a cracking player his run for their second was like a hot knife through butter.

Yes, they both went in for the tackle but the Torquay player did stamp on Bobby as he was disentangling himself - another of their lads was positioned so the ref couldn't see it but from where I was it was as plain as day. Good to see Bobby recovered enough to collect his motm award in the bar afterwards.

Re: Torquay match thread
Just another match report from a newspaper in the Torquay area.
But the bit I like is where they call us "play-off chasing Stanley". I know it's early days yet, but isn't it nice to have our name prefixed with that particular adjective, instead of "struggling..."?
Gulls' rally comes too

Isn't it strange though, even when Stanley were 4 two up, I was still looking at my watch.
I suppose we all remember Bradford.

Yes it is nice to have that adjective prefixed to the football clubs name, but in the cold light of day, if we win our game in hand by 3 goals (I think) then that would take us up to 10th spot and only 2 points behind the play off pack, so why not think of the team as play off contenders, no-one else has in league two except this particular newspaper. Lets hope the team continue to play in the same vein throughout the season and who knows? Either way, if the team stay together, it looks like a hell of an improvement on the last 3 seasons.

Re: Torquay match thread
i like the honesty displayed by their manager, who is one of the few to actually give us much credit.
I always try to read the other forums after Stanley games and you would not believe how many times opposition fans state that they weren't beaten by a better team. We aren't a 'fashionable' side so, just like when we won the conference, we'll struggle to get any credit and will just be referred to as a dirty clogging side.
