two reasons;
a) he's half decent and could do a job for us - but maybe a little too similar to John Miles?
b) it would annoy our Crusty Park 'mates' no end as they were mostly all hoping to sign him - til the embargo spoilt that idea. Their board has confirmed he will be going back to Carlisle when his deal expires on the 11th January. I quote ' it will be a blow to the fans'
I think Danny Carlton will be back on loan/permanent transfer to the Shrimps.
Negotiations are ongoing between the club and some players with a view to moving some players out in order to get the embargo lifted.

To quote Jon Newby - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Newby signed for Scottish First Division side Greenock Morton in July 2008,[7] before going on to score a double that evening in a friendly match against Threave Rovers. He scored on his competitive debut, a 1–1 draw at Broadwood against Clyde[8]
Newby was loaned to Nigel Clough's Burton Albion, as he was travelling up to Greenock from his home in England, just before the 1 September transfer window deadline.[9][10]
Clough confirmed after the win over York City that Newby's loan would not be extended past mid-January 2009.[11]"

Hope Newby isn't destined for us. He's not the answer to our striking problems.

Leighton McGivern eat your heart out.
Joking apart, he wasn't born too far away from Liverpool in Warrington. The football genius radar will have him on the screen.

But he's unproven at league level and apparently Millwall offered £100,000 for him last week. Why not add Torres and Ronaldo to your wish-list?
