I can't say about the Aldershot game; I wasn't there. He may have had a good game aside from his mistake with the lobbed shot and consequent goal. However, from other recent games I've seen he definitely isn't playing to his usual fine standard.
When a player so consistently good suffers an uncharacteristic dip in form it reveals a lack of confidence in that player and a state of unreached potential throughout the whole team. Only in my meaningless humble, of course.

I know what you are saying, he was uncharacteristically indecisive at times against The Daggers and The Hatters, which inturn spreads throughout the team. Lets hope its past him now - we are all entitled the odd blip, and he has been one of our better performers the last two seasons.
It all changes against The Vale
P.S. Nowt meaningless about it Shakermaker - your opinion and you are allowed it

Re: V Shoots game thread
When you have a statue playing at full back (Bell) it's bound to make the rest of the defence and the keeper edgy. I have not seen him make a tackle yet. At Aldershot a Southern based Red asked me if Bell was normally a full back thinking that he was maybe playing out of position. I told him that he was the assistant manager's son. "That explains it" was his reply. If he gets another contract at the end of the season then there is seriously something wrong. He isn't and never will be a footballer. Charnock and Edwards are constantly covering for him leaving the centre of defence open. Aldershot played on him on Saturday knowing that he was weak. In my opinion that is what cost us the game and if he plays on Tuesday and Port Vale have done their homework he will probably cost us the game again.

Re: V Shoots game thread
Come on folks keep the faith!!
I genuinely believe that this year Eric and John set out their stall to try and consolidate our position in league 2 then try to push on next year!!
I admit it hasn't gone as well as we all would have hoped but if we are in the same position next year then I will be worried......

Re: V Shoots game thread
Jeff, your post sums up the position perfectly. Poor Jay tries his best, but at some time it must be realised that he is never going to be a footballer. This is pretty much the same situation as the one which cost us the admirable Mark Roberts last season. He spent so much time concentrating on covering for Graham Branch that he ended up neglecting his own duties. Unfortunately, the same is happening with Kieron and Phil, which leaves gaps down the middle and puts extra pressure on Kenny. It's not rocket science - but it needs to be addressed!

Problem is Jeff who plays at left back?? To me its a problem at the moment with Kingy out, I agree J. Bell is a poor replacement and has in my opinion been useless at LB against The Daggers and The Hatters and it is possible that it is affecting Kenny but do not know who at the moment can fill in ? Lets hope for a better performance and result tomorrow against The Vale

If we go by Coley's theory of "strikers have the best knowledge of defence" then stick Paul Mullin at centre half and have Phil Edwards at left full back...

Re: V Shoots game thread
I think that the accusation of 'assistant managers' son' isn't really particularly fair. We would have King and Richardson in front of Jay but to have lost both of them at the same time leaves us scratching around for a replacement. I would probably have expected Edwards to go to right back and Cav to go across to the left side, but with both Murdock and Williams injured as well ...... we have two sets of four defenders in our 'paper thin' squad - Jay is the extra one on top of that. Whether he is good enough or not I don't know cos I have only seen him play once, but let's have it right he was only filling in.

HE IS THE ASSISTANT MANAGER'S SON, IT'S NOT AN ACCUSATION. If he wasn't then I am damn sure that he would not even be on Stanley's books.
