Late goals from Terry Gornell and Andy Procter sent Stanley home with their first ever point from a trip to Stevenage.
John Coleman made three changes to the team that drew with Morecambe in midweek, with Ian Craney, Joe Jacobson and Leam Richardson coming in to the side for Rory Boulding, Peter Murphy and Sean McConville.
But the new-look side barely had time to settle before they were behind, despite Jimmy Ryan lashing over in the early exchanges.
With just seven minutes on the watch the Reds were behind when Byron Harrison evaded the defence to latch on to a ball down the right. Letting it bounce once, the striker lofted it beyond Ian Dunbavin into the top left corner of the net.
Stanley looked shocked and unable to create an early chance had to settle for trying to keep possession and regain their confidence.
It took until the half hour mark for Coleman's men to look something like themselves. First Craney arched a shot wide from the edge of the D, before teeing up Ryan arriving at the back post seconds later. The midfielder got a shot in, but a deflection took the ball into the side netting.
At the other end, former Red Mark Roberts whistled an effort wide before Stanley continued their quest for an equaliser.
With seven first half minutes remaining Boro keeper Chris Day made his first save, denying Richardson from close range after tenacious work from Craney.
But the visitors were thankful to Dunbavin for the deficit being just one at the break when he parried an effort from Harrison on the stroke of half time after the striker met Lawrie Wilson's cross.
Stanley returned for the second half before their hosts as they looked to make a purposeful start, but though they increasingly pushed Boro back chances were hard to come by.
Ray Putterill was introduced soon after the restart, with Ryan the man he replaced. The number seven immediately reached for a bag of ice as he sat down, prompting fears of an injury.
Back on the pitch, Coleman's men were simply not testing Day enough, with free kicks from Craney and Jacobson deflected off the wall and a handful of corners producing little alarm.
15 minutes from time Dunbavin was called upon again, this time racing out to deny Harrison after the flag stayed down against the goalscorer, before Wilson hit a shot just wide.
It was to be a temporary reprieve as Wilson added a second just moments later. The wideman latched onto Chris Beardsley's through ball and slotted coolly beyond Dunbavin.
There was to be a late twist though, as Stanley found their stride as they had done in the closing minutes of the first period.
Gornell pulled a goal back with a great strike in off the post two minutes from the end and suddenly the home team were on the rack.
When the visitors won a corner in the last minute Stevenage had everyone back, but captain Andy Procter still found some space at the back post to find the bottom corner and send the Reds home with a share of the spoils.
Stanley: Dunbavin, Winnard, Edwards, Hessey, Jacobson (Lindfield 88), Barnett, Procter, Ryan (Putterill 52), Craney, Richardson (Boulding 72), Gornell
