Re: v Swindon-How lucky was that?

Scrap through or scrape through, a wins a win John, well done Stanley, four straight penalties in the back of the net and a couple of saves by the goalie. A typical cup match, hope for a big tie in the next round now. There's probably a few pints going down right now in the bar, great win Stanley.
keep the faith likes this.

The only lucky thing Kiwi, is that you did not start a match thread

Re: v Swindon-How lucky was that?

Not just pints of beer but there’ll be a few glasses of nerve tonic enjoyed tonight.
What a game!
For much of the 90 minutes, and most of the second half against ten men, Stanley (imho) were diabolical.
Couldn’t control the ball, couldn’t make a pass, couldn’t head the ball to a colleague - one of the worst performances i’ve seen this season.
Swindon deserved to go ahead with a good second goal, the away fans were smugly confident, and on 90 minutes it was doom and gloom in atheist Wham.
And then up pops Tyler to bang in a late equaliser and the Stanley life support machine kicked in.
The extra time was the most exciting period of the match and the young (and not so young) subs introduced some much needed urgency.
And, after his earlier penalty heroics, it was Billy Crellin’s two saves and the calm four penalties from Stanley that won the day.
Hats off to the penalty takers, and especially young Popoola for taking the first penalty, but Crellin deserved took the Man of the Match.
MikeA, Kiwi John, Greger and 3 others like this.

Spot on Exile with your analysis! Virtually the whole Stanley team were way off today. With the obvious exception of heroic Billy Crellin, also Tyler Walton for his goals and powerful running and also Sonny Aljofree for his coolness under pressure. Zack Awe had his hands full against the problematic big guy Smith but he dug in bravely. Our other lads all seemed to have a bad day and seemed unable to pass accurately, control when receiving the ball and the whole team didn’t get anyway near working out how to take advantage of the ‘extra man’. Honestly, I think that we ‘got out of gaol’ today purely down to Billy’s heroic penalty saves. Agree with Exile that in contrast, the penalty takers were sublime.
Let’s hope that we get a big draw in Round Three.

Unfortunately the bar was closed at half 5 due to Christmas parties booked in Coleys- shame as it would've been good to celebrate that awesome end to the game, made do with a visit to the off licence on way home & treated myself to a takeaway
