Re: vs Swindon
I reckon the club will take the money first Sparkie. Bar shut next season equals club shut pretty much!

Re: vs Swindon
I forecast on the thread we'd lose by 2 clear goals at Swindon.
At least we didn't concede 4 as I feared.
Any one who saw them under Wise at the FES will know that they are a strong team. When Wednesday were in League 1 a couple of years ago they beat us at the County Ground and were generally play off contenders. They should never have got relegated. They have since acquired Wednesday's management team, the most successful in Leagues 1 and 2, who rebuilt Plymouth from League 2 to a Championship outfit and turned Wednesday from League 1 relegation contenders to a play off winning Championship side in the space of six months on very little money.
Stanley need to treat all their home games as cup finals and accumulate as many points as they can on their travels.
If they scrap for everything they have the ability to pick up some points away and even the odd win there. Unless the points deduction makes it inevitable I trust Coley and the players not to accept that MK Dons' programme could join the Ebay picture frame as our last in the League.

Re: vs Swindon
Exactly haggis316!
Its down to the players on the pitch to pull things around, only they have the skills to do it. Despite everything wages, amateurish attitudes or whatever, its the men on the pitch who are the ones playing and who we are paying to see. They should be playing for there own pride, for their own place in the football league. If they just aren't good enough or don't think they are good enough they have no place playing professional football at any level.
Accrington has always had a reputation for never giving up no matter how long the odds may be and now is not the time to start.

Re: vs Swindon
yesterday was not good but its gone.....the main thing that strikes me is looking at yesterdays programme and seeing our squad numbers in the 40s....showS we havent had a settled side all season which cant be good for morale or team spirit.
3 points next week are essential

Re: vs Swindon
Whatever happens, just enjoy the ride. Of course if we stay up it'lll be wonderful but it's no the end of the world if we go down. A club like ours has no right to be in the League, and we should be over the moon to be here. Crowds, stadium etc show this. Last season we won the Conference with the 14th highest wage bill. We have been punching above our weight for the last 6 years. Essentially we're (at best) a mid-table Conference club who struck it lucky and got a once in a lifetime opportunity. If we go down, we can do it with pride. When teams like Barnsley and Swindon talk about their brief stints in the Premiership they talk with pride. Pride that their little club shook the establishment. So should we. How many Conference promotees worked the way up like us. Very few, the majority are all League drop outs (Hereford, Carlisle, Shrewbury etc).
If we go down we can say to the likes of Alty - "look, at least weve been there".
Finally how far do you realistically think we can go. Were any of you really expecting play-offs this year? I think our recent succcess has gone to some peoples heads. People who preffered winning in the Conference to struggling in the football League need to sort their priorities out.
Coley will be hear next year. Get over it.

Re: vs Swindon
It’s true that we were very poor going forward yesterday, but we’re not being helped by some of the decisions that come our way. I know that some of you on here are fed up with the management team griping at the officials, but yesterday was farcical. Coley set the team up to defend with men behind the ball, and it worked for 48 minutes. We knocked Swindon out of their rhythm, and for a period in the first half looked settled in the middle of the park, with Jay, Rommy and Toddy combining well. We didn’t create much, it’s true, but we were competing well and the home crowd were starting to get restless with their lot.
<O </O
Then came the incidents. Firstly, their No.10 Peacock, a tattooed thug masquerading as a centre-forward, launched himself into Kaz, and concussed him. The home fans bayed for Kaz’s blood on the basis that they thought him time-wasting. The ref gives us a free-kick but does nothing to punish Peacock. Just minutes later, the same player does Almeida with a similar challenge (I’ve heard that our lad might have a fractured cheekbone?). Again the home crowd boos Almeida for time-wasting and does nothing to punish Peacock. Net result? Two injured players (who both carry on after perfectly reasonable amounts of treatment time), no disincentive for Peacock to carry on the dirty play – and (here’s the killer) FOUR minutes of extra time for Stanley to survive. In the fourth minute of this, the ball hits Leam’s hand (absolutely no intent on his part) and the ref gives the pen. By this time its 3.55 and we should be back in the dressing room geeing each other up after a good 45 minutes, but because of two vicious challenges and resultant injuries to our players, we’re still out there and get a harsh decision with seconds to go to the break.
<O </O
You might think this just another way of finding excuses, but I can sympathise with Coley when circumstances combine like this. We’re playing in big stadiums with home crowds well-versed in pressurising referees, and with experienced opposition who constantly niggle away at the officials too. The refs give the easy decisions. Peacock even had the gall to whinge incessantly when the ref did eventually pull him up for yet more foul play. The gamesmanship is brazen – and it’s something that we just haven’t learned to combat during the season.

Re: vs Swindon
Peacock will be conscious and feel under pressure that Sturrock (see my current Avatar for the get up he wore as a dare against Reading on 22/4/06)transfer listed him owing to his low scoring rate at Sheffield Wednesday in January 2006.
He must have been dismayed when Sturrock (six weeks after signing a new 3.5 year contract despite Wednesday's bad form) was sacked by Dave Allen and followed him to Swindon. He will recall that Sturrock shipped out his co striker Onebuji who caused us such problems and created their goal at the FES as almost his first move.
After the Stockport result Sturrock had a few sleepless nights and had the team well geed up for Stanley.

this is why we should have a full house for the torquay match turn the fes into a fortress even if we dont reduce prices we should go round all the schools and give them free tickets for the coppice end and shove torquay fans into the away shed.
